We were in town for 2 days and mt wife said we had to do this. It was a foggy, damp drizzly day (so not much of a view unfortunately) but I am so glad we did this walk. The Portici is a covered walkway that leads to the top of the hill where the Sanctuary of the Madonna di San Luca is. It goes on for kilometres and is quite impressive. Equally impressive is the amount of steps one has to climb as you leisurely (sort of) ascend. Once you start climbing the hill, it is basically a very long subtle stair case and is a good walk! The views in better weather must be spectacular but it is also a great experience in poor weather as you are outside but covered. Not to be missed in Bologna! PS make sure you are wearing good walking shoes or boots or runners.

Walked the 3796 meter long up hill path through 666 arches and the worlds longest portico in the frezzing cold to reach the wonderful church San Lorenzo , we sat and took a breather and took in the workmanship of this splendid church , the view up here is amazing worth the climb and they do have a toilet up here and a vending machine to get a drink

A challenge for anyone visiting Bologna. There are around 40km of porticos in the town, but this is the one to walk. Around 3.8km of uninterrupted covered walkway to the basilica at the top of the hill. Takes almost an hour to get up there and the views are worth it. Tip - don’t arrive at the top between 12.30 and 14.30 since the Basilica is closed.

It took me about 25min to go up to the basilica de San Luca through the Portico di San Luca. It’s a 2km steep climb so wear your training shoes for it and prepare to sweat.

This is a difficult walk, but a great activity. Lots of steps and walkways that are covered and a continuous uphill climb. The reward is that you end up at the Sanctuary that holds the Black Madonna. There are also some great views when you get to the upper levels.
