Reviewed 24 March 2012

It was our first trip to Bologna and since we were on exhibition from 8 to 11 March 2012, so we knew that the hotel and flights should be booked in reasonably good time.
We had already booked 4 Viale Masini a 4 * Star Hotel. Located in the highway that leads around the whole city, therefore, also good when we were a little further out to the exhibition.
4 Viale Masini'm still frankly at pictures - Website and rooms reasonable size.
We arrived later than expected Thursday night, so we hoped that the hotel had not erased our booking. We arrived at a hotel full of Italian families and children so we thought that there was a huge family party. There were very nicely received us with perfect English speaking receptionists - Italians are not exactly known for being able to speak anything but Italian.
We got our room which was on the back side of the road 1 floor. We wondered a lot about that there were no carpets on the floors. There are always missing hangers for clothes.
It turned out that we'd get a handicap room with and our bathroom had no curtain. It would have resulted in that everything in the bathroom would get wet - I mean toilet paper, towels and water everywhere.
Down to the reception which immediately apologized and obviously wanted to give us another room right away.
Now it was by now 22:00 PM and we were hungry. But we decided to pack all unpacked our things together and move to another room on 2 floors facing the street.
It was in fact not helped by the whole night we did not closed an eye. The noise from the cars through a window that was not soundproof in no way made it sound like the autobahns in Germany in the myriad of time.

Down to reception next morning that once again a very positive manner complained. But snow in Bologna in the year had apparently destroyed the asphalt, so the cars wheels sounded like steel nails on the road. Now the problem was simply that either we were able to get handicapped room back or pay a little extra will also be upgraded. We chose the last suggestion, but seem true that the hotel should have compensated for this by giving us the upgrade for the hassle and inconvenience.
But we got no further surprises for this bathroom had water on the entire floor when you bathe in the shower which was in the bathtub. Here they lacked some edges to seal, so water could drain into the bathing pond and not the floor.
We just did not have to move again and it was lovely to be able to sleep well all night without noise.

The hotel bar and restaurant had chosen to server driver 3 course meal in the evening for very affordable prices of 15 Euro. Here were small starters, 2 different main courses and a large buffet of pastries and fresh fruit.

We are choosing to eat there every day because we knew that the whole city was pretty busy all the people who participated in the exhibition.
Staff was super at the bar and restaurant.
They tried their best to speak English and serve all of their many customers.
We could see that the Italians even used the place much - hence the big family reunion - the day we arrived.

Generally, we will say about the hotel, the rooms and the surroundings are not quite the 4 * Stars-it needs a little renovation.
The staff and their service lives fully up to be 4 * stars.
Breakfast is probably one of the most boring I've seen in 4 * Hotel-It can go up to 2 * stars. Come a half hour before the morning of the final was all empty of dishes - sad because there was not full.

We would anytime stay there again, now we know how to get the room and the positions for town walking distance is excellent.

This pleasant and comfortable hotel is a short walk from the centre of Bologna and very near both the bus and train stations. It is modern and spacious, the rooms are very nice, clean, quiet and a good size, the hotel personnel are very friendly and multilingual and the breakfast is well above average. I think for anyone who uses a hotel as base for sightseeing or for a business trip, this meets the bill perfectly. I will go back and, indeed, have deliberately looked for other hotels belonging to this chain.

Positive
Good location, opposite bus station and 5 min walk from rain station. Employees very friendly and helpful. Hip and modern decoration both in the lobby area as well as in the room. Clean room and bathroom. We ate dinner at the restaurant which we haven't decided yet if we liked or not!!!! My husband had a burger on a bed of lettuce, mandarines, pinapple, cookeed peppers, apples, pears. Nasty but a wierd combination. Mine was the same but with chicken.
EUR15 per person which I find a good price.
Negative
Small room, but if its only for sleeping, totally fine. Breakfast was not very good. Only one king of bread, scramble eggs, something that looked like sausages and different kinds of cakes that were there day afer day until all of them were eaten!!! Ciy centre about 10 mins walking, 15 mins if its in the snow!!! Average age of staff was around 30 which might put some people off. Very noisy street, so try asking for a room on the other side.

If I do visit again, I will be sure to stay here since overall I was happy.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that is not overlooking the road
