Is it heresy to offer only a 3* rating to St Peter's? We visited having already been through the Vatican Museum and the Sistine Chapel. As a result we were pretty tired and foot weary by the time we exited the Sistine Chapel and made our way down to the entrance to St Peter's. Our guide that had led us through the Chapel and Museum had also left us which meant that we were not able to fully understand all that we were seeing.

The place is huge! There was a strong mix of people who were clearly Roman Catholic and other tourists. Their is grandeur and amazing craftsmanship and obviously a clear linkage to Christian faith.
Having said that, I am not sure that this is the most amazing church that I have ever been in. And having come down from the glories of the Sistine Chapel, some of the masterpieces are positively drab! Maybe we should have visited in reverse order?
'That said, you have to visit here - Roman Catholic or not.

This amazing church is a must see, and not only for Michaelangelo's Pieta. Download a free audio tour from the Rick Steves Audio Europe App to learn about it at your own pace. And if you are visiting after the Vatican Museum, take the exit to the RIGHT as you leave the Sistene Chapel. Then turn right at the bottom of all the stairs, and you will be at the entrance to St. Peters!

Impressive interior. My teenagers were already tired from the Vatican museum but the church is so majestic that they followed with no complains and took plenty of pictures

Me and my husband visited the Vatican In our first trip to Rome. We buyed the Omnia tour and was included the Vatican museum and Sistine Chapel. If you want to skip the long line take an tour. We spend 4 hours inside and everything it is well organised
