The obelisk is one of five ancient roman obelisks, originally from the Mausoleum of Augustus, found its way to Quirinale square in the late 1700's. The huge statues are actually twins from mythology, awesome story. awesome piccies to be had.

Fontana Dei Dioscuri is yet another fountain. It is lovely, just like most of the other fountains. It is located in the Piazza del Quirinale, where the Presidential Palace is located. We passes by this area a number of times over the course of four days, and saw only a handful of people in this area. Not very popular, so you can see the fountain without the huge crowds you have to contend with in other places.

This lovely fountain is located next to the Presidential palace.
It is complimented by an evenly impressive obelisk.

The huge statue of Castor and Pollux is a five meters high copy of the original Greek statues that stood at the entrance of the Baths of Constantine which were brought here by Pope Sixtus V in 1588. At the end of the 18th century the fountain and original statues were removed and the obelisk from the Campus Martius was put here and later complemented with new statue, designed by Raffaele Stern and made from an ancient Roman granite shell.
