This was a pensione, NOT a hotel. Don't stay here if you need help with luggage. No one offered to help us with our bags. Luckily, they had 2 small elevators, an elevator accommodating one adult with one large or medium bag. Our room for two was so tiny that one of us had to sit still in one corner so the other could move around. Two sides of the bed were against mirrors so I had to crawl out when I used the facilities at night. On our first and second days, we told the guy at the front desk (between 10 AM- 11 AM) that our safe was locked upon arrival. He made excuses and seemed irritated we bothered him. As a result, we just stayed out of the way of this unfriendly host the rest of our stay. The front desk was open 24 hours but did not change currency. Our room air conditioner seemed to work since it was humming but our tiny room never got colder than 25C with the window closed. At night especially (we were sightseeing during the day) we opened the window and the mosquitoes came buzzing around. Fortunately, I brought mosquito repellent wipes which I placed around our bed so we were not feasted on. We had a small kitchen, pots and pans, dishes and a two-burner stove. The towels were changed every 4 days and the bed linens, weekly. An extra change was €5 per person. The room was cleaned daily, the trash emptied. I rated it 2 stars because of the great location and proximity to the Vatican and the cleanliness of our tiny room. The room was also quiet. The pensione is accessible to 2 Metro stations- Cipro and Ottaviano. Several Italian restaurants and a couple of supermercattos were within 5 min. walk. Free parking was available to those with vehicles. I have prepaid them through booking.com but when we were about to leave, the night clerk said we owed them around €6-€7 per night tax. Fine, we paid it and he called us a taxi which arrived in 5 minutes. I would not recommend this pensione for those used to staying in hotels.

I'm hesitant to write this review as I feel like I found a gem of a hotel and don't want it spoiled. The Residence Candia is in a fantastic location just a few blocks walk from Cipro Metro station, so VERY easy to get it. It's also only a few blocks away from the entrance to the Vatican Museums. The room we had for for 6 of us (2 Adults 4 kids 18,16,14 and 11) and had TONS of room. It was all VERY nice and spacious and that made everyone very happy. For a room that size to sleep 6, it was a very good rate and honestly I would love to stay there again. The front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. I speak fluent Italian but it appeared they spoke good English too. Nearby is my favorite gelateria in Roma, Millennium Gelateria which is just a block to the west and you pass it as you walk to the hotel from the Cipro Metro station.....in fact we stopped there with our bags before we even checked in! Also great is the Carrefour Supermercato a block in the opposite direction from the hotel from the Cipro metro station. Good food at great prices to help with pain of paying tourist prices for basics. Long story short, will stay here again.

This hotel is situated near "Cipro metro station" and the Vatican Museum. It has a nice roof garden and well equipped rooms. *But* the Tv channels were all Italian. we had a room adjacent to "Via Candia" and it was very noisy and you hear lots of cars and motors driving (even during the night) but not all the rooms are at the front.

Also the place is very close near an Hospital so that explains the sirens you hear a lot . It is situated in a residential neighborhood with many good restaurants and supermarkets.

Rooms:

It had a tiny kitchen but full of equipment you need. The bathroom was very good. Everything was very clean. In my opinion the beds were good but that is for every person different.

I would go there next time for sure but then a room at the back.

The outside view is less than inspiring but once inside there is good decor and free WiFi.
Our room, whilst small was clean and very well equipped it also overlooked a small courtyard.
Metro station close by means easy transfer to main sites of Rome city.
Vatican City was in walking distance.
Would use again and recommend to others
