“Beautiful apartment in an authentic neighbourhood!”
Reviewed 26 May 2014 for a stay in May 2014

Our stay at Enrica's apartment was one of the best holiday stays we have ever had!

On our arrival in Rome, we found the apartment building very easily by getting off the metro at Cipro. However, we found our phones did not work and had trouble contacting Enrica to enter the building. Local neighbours from the building saw us struggling and tried their very best to help us out, despite the language barrier (our Italian is poor!) In the end we took refuge in the gelato place at the end of the road to use their Wi-Fi. After 10 minutes, we had resolved our phone issues and had contact with Enrica.

Her nephew Laurence came to greet us right away and showed us up to the apartment. The apartment is very beautiful and is bigger in person than it looks in the photos. There is lots of storage space for all your items and clothes - we only stayed for two nights but would have been very comfortable for a longer period. Walking up to the bed at night was so unique!

The bed was very comfortable with a wonderful mattress! Feather pillows were provided but we also found synthetic filled ones in storage (my partner has asthma and found this beneficial). We were comfortably warm in the night with the bedding that was provided. There are steps up to the bed (and the apartment) which some travellers may have difficulty with but we were fine with this.

The bathroom was just what we needed with a shower, toilet (with bidet) and sink - some may say it is small but we have a similar size bathroom at home and found it to be perfect with plenty of clean towels and shampoos/soaps. If you are overly tall you may have trouble with the show - my partner is 5ft9 and the height was just right.

The neighbourhood is very authentic! The neighbours in the traditional apartment block always said hello when our paths crossed in the courtyard. Outside the building, the road is quiet and there are super markets nearby (we found a SPAR on the next road). There were plenty of restaurants in the area also.

We walked to the Vatican Museum on our second day which was barely a 10 minute walk! In the evenings after being in the centre of Rome, we walked home and found this took around 30 minutes to an hour (depending on how often we stopped for photos) but we are fast walkers (aged 26 and 32).

Everything was provided in the apartment - including an iron, ironing board, hair dryer and a washing machine! The best was the breakfast items included - Enrica had stocked us up with milk, yogurts, croissants, fruit, bread, coffee, tea, jam, fruit juice, water, crackers, biscuits and cakes! Not to mention the Nespresso machine which we appreciated every morning. A gas-top stove, microwave, dishwasher, fridge, freezer and toaster was also available.

The only things we wished we had available whilst staying there was ground black pepper for meals and a stove kettle for making tea - however plenty of salt was available and there is a milk pan for boiling water. There was also oil and other basic condiments for cooking and all the cooking utensils you could need.

The Wi-Fi that was available worked instantly and was very quick on my smart phone with a great connection.

We communicated with Enrica by text over our entire stay and she was always available to answer questions and make sure we were ok. We arranged a check out time this way and she arrived promptly at 10am. Enrica herself was very lovely and accommodating and we can see her character and personality had definitely shaped how the apartment looks! She even provided some sweet pastries for our journey up to Venice which were very tasty.

I would highly recommend this stay if you are looking to be away from the touristic areas and want something a little bit more authentic. It is well connected by the metro and walkable from the city centre if you don't mind the distance. I'm really glad we stayed at Enrica's as it really made our trip more enjoyable and we always looked forward to coming back to the apartment in the evening. Thank you so much Enrica! We hope to come back to Rome again!
