“Expensive and a little out of the way of the main attractions”
Reviewed 3 August 2012

We stayed in Hotel Flavia for three nights. The reception staff were pleasant and helpful. The entrance and breakfast area are nicely done, if a little OTT. Our bedroom (a triple room)was disappointing in that it had rather tired decor and a very small TV! It did have air conditioning though and a nice view of the street. The bathroom was spacious and clean, though the bedroom floor was not as carefully swept of previous occupants hair as it should have been (it was definitely dark hair and I am blonde!)

The breakfast was acceptable though as we found in another hotel in Italy- rather 'cake heavy' which didn't really suit our taste buds, so we just had cereal and croissants.

In terms of loation the street Via Flavia has a couple of tavernas on it, but it is at least 1 km walk to get to some of the attractions (and around 25 minutes to the Colosseum) which is fine if you are happy to walk, but would not recommend for those with young children. It is quite handy for the main station though (about 10 minutes).

Overall we felt the hotel did not provide excellent value of money. I would recommend staying in a more central location, even if you have to pay extra for a location closer to the attractions.

If the Trevi Fountain wish is correct... then I will definitely return to Hotel Falvia for our next trip. We had originally booked another hotel for our stay and had a rather stressful falling out with the owners, and Hotel Flavia really helped us with a last-minute reservation and even guided us to a hotel that offered us a shuttle service to their location. This was extremely helpful, especially travel with two kids.

The staff of the hotel is beyond great customer service! They are extremely friendly and helpful. They gave us information on sites to see, buses and metro information to travel around the city, and even simple tourist information (breakfast, stamps, etc.).

The room was very comfortable for my family of four, and the bathroom was pretty big. The A/C felt great in our room when returning from being outside in the heat all day.

The location of the hotel is also convenient for public transportation. The bus station is only 2 blocks over, and the metro maybe 3 blocks. We usually rode the metro, because our kids really liked it. Also near the hotel are a handful of nice restaurants that have outside seating. If you see the sites all day, you can return to the hotel and enjoy a nice dinner on the sidewalk nearby.

Breakfast was a nice way to start the day each morning that we were there. They have American coffee and espresso (I believe), an assortment of pasteries (including jams and NUTELLA!), bread, toast, hard-boiled eggs, cereal, yogurt, milk and juices. The lady who works in the breakfast room is really sweet and accommodating as well. On our last day, we had an extremely early flight, and we figured we would pick up something at the airport(since the breakfast hours say they start at 7am). Upon checking out around 6:30am, we were offered to go to the breakfast room to take some food with us!! We took him up on the offer and grabbed a few croissants to help our early morning hunger (which turned out to be a lifesaver, because we were extremely late for our flight and would never have had a chance to grab anything at the airport).

Thank you, thank you, thank you, Hotel Falvia for helping to make our trip to Rome a fun and relaxing experience!

Mini bar was expensive (2euro for small bottle of water). Breakfast was aweful. Rooms were small. Finally reception asked us to pay aditional city tax (2 euro per day). We also paid tax while reservation.
