This hotel is in a quiet location within 10 minutes walk of the central station (Termini), but away from the main tourist sites. Rooms are very old-fashioned but clean. The bathroom was a cupboard shoehorned into a corner of the old room; plenty of hot water but scarcely room to be in the shower unless you're tiny.

Breakfast is an adequate buffet, but choose your time carefully as the small breakfast rooms can get overcrowded very quickly.

There's 24 hour reception service, which is friendly and efficient, and the hotel offers good value for money.

We just returned from our trip to Italy. We spent 3 nights in Rome at the Hotel Montecarlo. We had a very pleasant stay. After long flights from the US we arrived and were able to check in right away. This was much appreciated so that we could get out and see the sights of Rome!
We purchased the Roma 72 hour pass which was well worth the $$. We were able to hop on and off the metro and buses at will. It also gave us free entry to 2 museums and discounts to numerous other places. There were plenty of great restaurants within walking distance to the hotel. Our room was clean and cozy. Yes - the bathroom shower was the smallest I have ever seen but we made it work. We especially liked leaving our keys at the front desk so we had no worries of losing them while traipsing around Rome. The breakfast room is downstairs and had a decent variety of food and fresh fruit. The bar on the main level was a good place to meet up with our traveling companions for a drink before heading out to dinner.
When it came time to leave to our next city the walk to Termini was only a few minutes away.

Yes, the hotel is an older building; but that is exactly why we chose it over newer, more modern hotels. It is located close to transportation which made getting around very easy. It is well maintained and the room, though small, was exceptionally clean. The entire staff was friendly and extremely helpful for everything from setting up tours to checking on our airport transfer time. Television reception isn't great; but if you travel to Rome to watch TV, you may as well stay home.

hotel is very basic but it does not really matter if your going to be spending most of the trip doing stuff during the day time , the safe in the room would not lock and just stayed open for the whole trip , the tv had no signal/channels , the bathtub Jacuzzi kept spitting bits of plaster out when it was turned on and when you sit in the bathtub the water just leaks out onto the bathroom floor causing big puddles of water .breakfast is nice but served in a small room downstairs . the recepetionist who checked us in was very friendly and outlined the main attractions on a map. the room itself is not too bad but was a bit smaller than what we imagined.the hotel is situated very close to Roma termini which is a great benefit for transport. hotel has no access for wheelchairs unfortuantly also the beds feb like a rock

Stayed at the Montecarlo for a week with my wife while in Rome. Kind of a smaller, older hotel, but it is clean and well kept up. The rooms are small, at least by American standards, but they are nicely appointed and seem fairly recently renovated. The hotel is a 7-8 minute walk to both the Termini and Repubblica Metro Stops, so that is very convenient. The staff is very helpful. I would say my biggest complaint is that the beds are pretty hard, not my style, but other than that it was a pretty good stay there.
