“Best hotel to stay in Rome”
Reviewed 3 April 2012

San Anselmo is one of a group of three hotels in a quiet residential area of Rome on Aventino hill. We have stayed in the other two, which are excellent, but this is by far the best. Our room was to die for, a four poster bed and spacious bathroom. The beauty of this hotel is outstanding. Beautifully furnished guest lounge rooms to relax in, lavish breakfast room and the outdoor areas are so charming and peaceful. After a busy day walking around Rome this is the place to come home to. Whilst the hotel is just a short distance from the centre of Rome (buses and the metro nearby) the location is perfect, quiet and with beautiful buildings all around. The hotel staff cannot be faulted, so helpful with restaurants recommendations, sightseeing, and car to airport. The only place to stay in Rome.

Room Tip: Ask for four poster beds, or rooms with balcony or terrace.

Lovely boutique hotel on top of Aventino hill. I strongly reccomend it for tourists willing to walk around Rome. Breakfast in the garden is worth the choice of this hotel. Ask for top floor rooms where the viene is breathtaking. Close to the famous door with the St. Peter view have also a walk to the orango tree garden with a marvellous view. For traditional dining go to Testaccio.

The feel and experience that we are looking for in Italy with style. Not a big hotel but this is what we wanted - privacy! The interiors are truly boutique and each rooms have character. staff are very courteous and very friendly we feel at home! I have lots of friends who booked in some other hotel in the center and commented on the size and cleanliness - obviously we did not experience it in S.anselmo. Experience living in a stylish Italian villa. We will surely go back.....oh forgot to mention it is near the Parco dei Arranci , with a 3 min walk get a picturesque view of the Tiber river and the imposing Saint Peter Basilica.

The hotel, where I have stayed several times before, is one of three located on the lovely and peaceful Aventino hill. The other two hotels, the Villa San Pio and Aventino, are three star and very pleasant but the San Anselmo is the queen of the three, 4 star and well worth it. The decor is a combination of baroque and ultra modern - photogenic for sure. The mangement is exceptionally simpatico to the extent that when I told them that we had to check out at 4 A.M. to get to the airport they offered to pack us a breakfast.

We splurged on a room with a huge terrace - it was a worth every euro.

We entertained guests with drinks and snacks in their main reception room which also has a small outdoor area. The walled entrance area is furnished with comfortable seating and the back of the building has a beautiful garden where breakfast is served in warm weather.

I have recommended this hotel to many friends and they have all loved it.

The hotel does not have a restaurant but there are many good spots within easy walking distance and if you don't want to eat out they'll make you a good panini, or even better you can get something spectacular from the Volpetti Deli just down the hill.

The Avenine Hill has a number of interesting ancient churches, the famous orange garden with it's view of St Peters and the keyhole in the doorway entrance to the Knights of Malta where the same sight is availabe in miniature.

Room Tip: Get one with a terrace - you'll love it.
