“A charming hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 15 June 2012

My wife and I recently spent five nights at the Barberini. This place is charming, having the look and feel of old Rome. The location is excellent - a short walk to the Spanish Steps, the Trevi Fountain, the Villa Borghese via the Via Veneto. And nearby Via Condotti and the upscale shopping.

Our room was spacious (for Roman standards, at least), clean, with a very comfortable king bed. The bathroom was well appointed and had a very powerful shower. Much needed before dinner after a long day in Rome.

The breakfast room on the top floor affords a wonderful view of the city. The food was very good ---- a combination European/American style with meats, breads, cereals, pastries and, of course, scrambled eggs, bacon and sausages --- OK they were weiners, but who cares? Breakfast was included in the room rate.

Ask for a room on the Via Rasella with a view of the Barberini Palace and its grounds. (We had room # 406. # 405 next door is larger but most likely costs more.)

We didn't get a chance to interact much with the staff. But, when we did, they were helpful.

I would recommend this hotel to friends, family and business associates. Look forward to returning to Rome. Will stay at the Barberini again.

This was a horrible place to stay - one tiny window that didn't really open out - I felt sick. It was dated and really needs updating. The reception desk were unhelpful when we checked in and really off hand like we were doing them a favour staying there. Only plus was you could walk to the main locations from here but I barely slept all night in the room.

My group of 7 loved this hotel. Excellent decor, very comfortable, very helpful staff & everything is spotless.
Only thing I did not like, my group arrived at the hotel around 930am & they were hungry. They charged me 30e each to have a little breakfast, even me they charged !! I booked 5 rooms this trip & am comming back aug 2012 booking 8 rooms !! That was the only mistake they made. You should never bite the hand that feeds you !

Dear Customer,
the hotel breakfast, served at the roof garden costs 35 euros per person but we include it in the price of the room. Upon your early arrival, breakfast was not included, perhaps the hotel was too busy to apply an exception therefore we have applied a rule so inflexible. However, thanks to your review, we have corrected our mistake and now offer early arrival breakfast to all guests who require it at a very much lower price than the official one and at a very better service than any cafeteria in the neighborhood.
We look forward to hearing from you soon in the near future. Best regards, Mauro Laconi Front Office manager

My Husband and I were travelling from Canada abroad only for a week with a 2 day stop over in Rome to enjoy the sites and tourist attractions. We decided to stay in hotels this time around as it was only for a week and we wanted to make our trip as convenient as possible. So we decided to book at Hotel Barberini.
After the first night my husband woke up with what appeared to be small bug bite only about 2 or 3 located on his right elbow. We didn't think much of it as they were itchy and just assumed they were everyday bug bites. Upon further investigation onto the sheets we noticed a small smear of blood. At this time we didn't do anything as nothing was for sure to assume it was bed bugs.
We continued with our daily activities and returned to the hotel at approx. 3pm. When my husband jumped into the shower I noticed over 100 bites located all over his body that became very itchy.
We immediately alerted the hotel staff.
The sheet from earlier had already been changed so there was no proof of the blood, minor considering that 100 + bites all over his body.
We immediately switched rooms. Upon check out the next day we asked if we would in any way be compensated for our room at all. They phoned there manager Emilio Oldani. He told us that the best they could offer us was a free hotel transfer to the airport. We stated that that would be unexceptable and that we wanted compensated if not for both nights at least one. He then stated that they are unable to help us in anyway and that they will now not even offer us the airport transfer.
We found this very rude. We are now at home and have to deal with the issue of possibly bringing home bed bugs and the manager wouldn't even compensate us for one night at his lousy bed bug ridden hotel. PLEASE DO NOT STAY HERE IT IS NOT WORTH THE HEADACHE OR BEDBUGS
I will be uploading photos soon

Dear Customers,
Thanks to misrepresent the facts. As a representative of the Hotel Barberini I do not want to argue with you nor with anyone else but it is our right to inform everybody else about what happened in our opinion. Without comment, I will explain a few points summary:

1) The customers complained of dermatitis caused by alleged insect .
2) As a precaution we moved them to other room.
3) The customers asked the hotel to pay their pick up at the airport as a refund. We accepted and offered free drinks at the bar too.
4) The customers will then ask the total discount for the whole stay threatening a bad review on Tripadvisor.
5) At this point we could not accept any gratuitous threat, took our complimentary back and invited the customers to write on Tripadvisor.
Best regards,
Mauro Laconi - Front Office Manager

In the 17th Century the Barberini family controlled a large slice of Rome. Maffeo Barberini, who figures in a series of tapestries in the Vatican Museum (you have to go!) ultimately became Pope Urban VIII. This little hotel is across the street from Palazzo Barberini, now a museum. The position, close to Piazza Barberini for the Metro and buses, and to the Trevi fountain in the other direction, yet on a fairly quiet back street (You don't come to Rome for absolute tranquillity!) is perfect. We were fortunate enough to be given a room looking out on the Palazzo and its vast cedar tree. The rooms are not huge but the corner rooms are bigger than average, with a triangular bathroom which has an opening window. Rooms are beautifully appointed with lots of hanging space, a mini-bar, TV, Aircon and free Wi-Fi. The bathroom is totally marble with plentiful lovely Italian shower gel etc. Breakfast on the 6th floor overlooks the skyline of Rome, which is breathtaking, though not quite as impressive as Florence. There is an excellent choice buffet breakfast. Staff are cheerful, helpful and efficient. And when my wife's lovely new dress was not in the taxi at the airport, they arranged to send it by express delivery to our home. Our only problem was the rather hard pillows.

Room Tip: Room 407 was good

Dear Customer,
We are enchanted by your knowledge of a particular age of Rome’s history ! Our huge compliments! You should be here now : the Rome Chamber Music Festival is performing at Palazzo Barberini and musicians are staying at our hotel tuning their instruments at the roof garden at floor 6. Cello is so touching..
Come back soon, we look forward to welcoming you again and again.
Best regards
