It was a great experience. Lots to see - make sure to get a guide or take along a Rick Steve's Guidebook so that you know where you are and what you are looking at.

Only concern, no one warned us about the poor walking conditions, uneven pavements and the constantly undulating sidewalks.

To avoid waiting in line at The Colosseum but joint tickets here the ticket office is never busy as everyone does their tours the other way around ie Colosseum and the The Forum. As part of the ticket price you also get access to Palatine Hill with it's view over Circus Maximus. There is no direct route around to see everything, just wander about and you will see most things of interest. Good value for money.

Conclude your visit on Victorio Emmanuelle II Monument, just a few more steps, you will find The Roman Forum, center of the political life of Rome. The entrance fee was only 5 euros per person which is a gift.

My husband and I and 20 yr old son visited end of day (5-7). The audio guides stopped being handed out around 5:530 so we just walked. Waste of time.

We hired a tour guide and returned 2 days later. Transformative. The history is so impressive. Even if you think you ‘don’t like’ history, you actually will

PArt of our tour of the Colosseum/ Palatine Hill tour. This place is quite mind biggling as you see many layers of history a bit like the layers of an onion.
Yes there are crowds and yes it can get hot so a bottle of water is highly recommended. You will also cover a fair number of steps during your visit.
Hard to say which part was a favourite as there are so many to choose from. You could visit here in a quick whizz or spend all day!
