“Wonderful Hotel at a great location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 March 2012

We stayed in the hotel for 5 nights and we have only good things to say. We were tree siblings traveling for a long weekend.
Beautiful rooms, clean and tidy. we had a view to the back garden which was very beautiful and quite. Breakfast is very good with all you need for a days' start. The lobby staff is very nice willing and helpful.
Location wise - very nice area not far from the old streets of the center. We came with walking spirit and did that a lot so we felt the location is very central.
We would definitely return next time we're in Rome.

Room Tip: The recommendation we got and followed was not to take first floor rooms and take a room facing the...

My Dad and I stayed in Hotel Kolbe for 4 nights in early spring. It was Dad's first trip to Rome and we had a fantastic time. He is particularly into the archeological and classical history stuff and hotel Kolbe is in the perfect place on the edge of the forum, palatine hill and circus maximus. The staff are outstanding and accomodating. Always happy to help. It is slightly remote from the bustling centre and leaves you a little short of immediate restaurants, however, a short walk across the Tiber to Trastavere gives a huge choice of great places to dine.

The breakfast was plentiful and accessible though I have to say continental breakfasts are not really my thing. The room was spacious, well turned out and clean. It was a great stay.

Booked the hotel directly through their website, as the price wasn't different from other booking websites, and had wifi connection included.
The hotel is very nice, modern, clean, spacious. Big lobby, nice reception staff, very helpful and spoke english very well.
The room (superior double) was very good. Again, lots of space, big bathroom (with bathtub) and all the toiletries needed.
It had patio doors directly to the hotel's garden, which was beautiful and very quiet (only heard the church bells ringing on sunday morning for a few minutes at around 8am).
Breakfast was good, though on saturday morning it was very crowded and understaffed. This reflected on a slow service cleaning up the tables, and setting them again for new customers, and refilling some of the food platters as well. Nothing that would bother you if you're not on a rush. Otherwise, nice pastries, fruit, yogurts... a bit disappointing to have a automatic coffee machine in Italy (a hand made cappuccino would be a lot nicer).
WiFi didn't work very well in our room, but maybe that's because it was a bot far from the reception area.
In terms of location, the hotel is just outside the roman forum (though the entrance to the forum is on the opposite side - 10 minute walk), very close to circus maximus. There are lots of buses just on the road behind the hotel and across from circus maximus.
Easy to walk to Piazza Venezia (through a hill - Capitol Hill), and just across the river from Trastevere (great for restaurants and bars - 10 minute walk).
Rome is a walking city, so pack your comfortable shoes, and you'll have fun!
No problem leaving the bags at the hotel on the last day.

Room Tip: Ask for a garden facing room... the road is cobbled (though low traffic) and the cars might keep you...

Before booking  this hotel I took my  time to read other traveller's oppinion on this hotel and as most of reviews were positive I decided to book at Kolbe  Hotel. And I didn't regret at all! People who say it's distant from the places to see say rubbish! It's enough to take the look at the map of Rome and see that it is in the middle of the center - of  ancient Rome!!!! It was spetacular to wake up in the morning and look out of the window watching the ruins of the ancient Rome just across the small street!!! It gives you the sensation to go back in time, a unique sensation that only few hotels in Rome can give you, trust me!
My room was spotless and cleaned every day, also towels and bedding replaced regularly. Another thing I have noticed on some reviews is that the rooms were small! Of course ,they are ,if the people who wrote those reviews expected the stadium court to sleep in???!!! The spatial scale of my room approached the size of some suites at other hotels in Rome I stayed in !

The breakfast in the hotel is more than average being the continental buffet style; fresh fruit ,bacon and scrambled eggs replaced regularly, all kinds of yoghurts and cereals, fresh bread and pastries every day and also some home made cakes that are gorgeous! We ate dinner in the restaurant one night and the food was fantastic, fresh spaghetti with seafood were the best we ate in Rome!
The service and the staff is excellent! Kind ,welcoming and friendy, all english speaking!!!!

Rome is beautiful and staying in this hotel made it unforgetable for me and my husband.
We would stay again without a doubt and I reccomend this Hotel to everybody who wants to enjoy Rome and its rich history!
Thanx kolbe hotel and the staff...we will surely be back soon

This hotel was clean and friendly with a beautiful garden out back. There were however a few downsides. The continental breakfast was ok, but food lacked variety and local flare. Just your average scrambled eggs and bacon and juices/cereal.

We stayed at this hotel for a week and the breakfast was identical everyday. I would have liked to have had some kind of variety in what was available.

As for the location, it was quite good but be warned it is quite far from Termini and the local shops in Circo Massimo close very early. One night we wanted to get a bottle of wine and had to venture to Termini which was not very fun.

Overall clean hotel with average rooms. Location was decent but was a bit of a hike to most major attractions.

Room Tip: Try to get a room overlooking the garden
