Lovely apartment in a fantastic area, with a sun terrace that you will not want to leave. My husband still talks about ‘the terrace’. A short bus ride to the sites, but we preferred to stay local, which has lots to offer. Once you’ve got used to the quirky, narrow, last 16 steps, you will fall in love with this place.
I booked this holiday as a birthday surpise for my partner with which she was absolutely thrilled. The aparment was a bijou delight - very well appointed, within walking distance of many of the historic sights of Rome. We couldn't have wished for better host than Lidia and Marco - they immediately made us feel very welcome, ensured we had all the necessary information to hand ie: maps, detailed instructions, public transport timetables, restaurants, bars, gelaterias, pasticerrias, supermarkets and lots, lots more. We especially looked forward to breakfast each morning on the rooftop terrace overlooking the park and the rooftops of Rome - watching the swallows sweeling the sky. Thank you Lidia and Marco for making our stay in Rome that little bit extra special.
This small, two-story apartment is in an excellent, upper-class location, with a terrace overlooking Villa Paganini and across the street from Villa Torlonia. My wife and I have stayed here eight times, and we love it! The apartment is fully furnished and includes a clothes washer, Wi-Fi and satellite TV. Many restaurants and grocery stores are nearby, as are metro and bus stops, each of which can take you quickly to the tourist areas. One of the nice things about the apartment, however, is that it is in a nice Roman neighborhood, rather than one overrun by tourists. There is a lift that goes from the ground floor to the third floor, but on the negative side a small spiral staircase must be negotiated to reach the apartment. Once there, however, the views are great! I have saved the best for last. Certainly, the nicest things about the apartment are its owners, Marco and Lidia. They live in the building, like to answer questions, and have prepared "take along" maps with directions of how to go to the key tourist sites. They are wonderful!
We stayed for a week and had a wonderful time. Marco and Lydia couldn't have been nicer. We got tickets online for a museum, forwarded the note with the attachment to Marco and he printed it out for us. They have a whole binder full of information including multiple copies of maps so you can take one with you on your outings. All the bus routes, stops etc are included. Bus stops are easy walking distances from the apartment.
We highly recommend this rental.
This is a beautiful apartment at the top of a wonderful villa. There is an elevator with a short circular stair to the apartment itself. I am 72 and had no trouble negotiating any part of the rental. The veranda attached to this apartment is wonderful. I could get up with the sun, make coffee and sit out watching a woman in the neighboring building watering her plants while below in the park and gardens of the Villa Paganini I could look down and watch the neighborhood dogs bringing their owners to the fountain to drink and splash and sport. This was a wonderful sight every morning. I think the owners looked forward to seeing each other as much as their pets.
The reasons I like this apartment the most are that the owners are amazing in their helpfulness in toting bags, returning my car to Enterprise Rental, taking us on an a night flight through Rome which no other travelers ever see. They are warm and friendly. The apartment is very secure.
The location? It is within easy walking distance for my old legs. We love to stroll and hold hands, buying ice cream in the evening. A short walk up the street (Alpini) and a left turn into Zara brings you within yards of Avenue Nomentana. Turn right into the famous Avenue and stroll..Or, take the frequent busses that take you maybe 15 intersections to Via Sistina were we turn right and stroll some blocks to emerge at the top of the Spanish Steps. There are good shopping streets around the apartment as well as small grocery stores.
I have been to Rome some twenty times and have become tired of the crush of tourists in the city center. This apartment is in a real and classy neighborhood of Rome. You are surrounded by Roman citizens and not bus loads of ... tourists. Do not assume that this apartment is too far out. Transportation and walking are easy. Barbara and I love to rent a place and become neighbors as much as possible. This trip made us neighbors of a completely new and interesting area of Rome that was not infested by a single tour bus. During this trip we became citizens of Rapallo and of Rome. It is in the center of early 20th century architecture and history. Villa Torlonia made me want to take off my shirt, raise my chin and strut !! (I am joking.) We went there several time to dine. The people watching is great. Out the front of the apartment and a right turn takes you down to one of the finest sea food restaurants I have experienced and the customers are every bit as interesting as any high end restaurant along Wilshire Boulevard. We give this apartment and neighborhood and the charming landlords our highest recommendation. I wish I had space to push the architecture and sculpture along the walk to Quatro Fontane and on to the Borromini ceiling and the "Ecstasy of St. Theresa" by Bernini in the Cornaro Chapel, Santa Maria della Vittoria. I was a teacher of history and humanities and wished I could have taken all of my students to this neighborhood and to those locations. This apartment will be convenient, good transportation, and friendly. (may need editing. sorry.)
