“Nice but not close to sites”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 May 2012

Very friendly and helpful staff. Be prepared to use mass transit or taxis. We were in a front room and had quite a bit of street noise. The other members of our group were more in the back so their rooms were quiet. Free wifi didn't work in all rooms. Breakfast was good with a great view of St Peters Basilica dome. The rooms were clean and comfortable.

Room Tip: Rooms in the back are much quieter.

We stayed here for 3 nights. We travelled as a family of four and shared a family room. The room was clean, perfectly spacious enough and had all the facilities that you need including free wi fi which is a must for our family.
The Astrid is purely a bed and breakfast hotel which is all you need in Rome. Breakfast is served on the fifth floor where you have a view of the Vatican in the distance. There is a fair amount of choice and the breakfast is perfectly adequate.
The staff were all friendly and helpful
I think the location of the hotel is perfect. It is in Flamino which is a little out of the centre however there is a frequent tram service very nearby and within 3 stops you are in the Piazza del Popolo. From here it is a lovely stroll to the Spanish Steps and the 'Wedding Cake'. It is also easy to get the metro or the bus to get wherever you want to go
The other advantage of being slightly out of the centre is that you can enjoy restaurants that are not overpriced and touristy - this is a definite bonus. We ate most nights for around 40E which is fantastic for a family of four
I do agree with the reveiw that suggested hiring a private car to and from the airport. We did take a taxi when we arrived and it was one of the scariest rides I have had. He virtually drove on two wheels, he drove like a madman (which actually is common in Rome) - not to be recommended. the private car however which the hotel arranged for our return to the airport was the same price at 55E but a far more relaxing, professional experience

nice friendly hotel, staff very helpful.the rooms very small, but clean and comfy, did the job!my only complaint is its a good 40min walk from the main tourist attractions.i would also strongly recommend making use of the private car to and from the airport to hotel at 55euro its not cheap but better than the alternative of being ripped off by taxis (some trying to charge 100euro)or the madness of trying to get on the terravision bus at the airport.be warned if getting this bus expect to queue for nearly an hour, with people pushing in and others shouting at each other.when you finally do arrive at termini station expect again to be charged 4x the normal rate by taxis, unless u prepared to tackle the underground with all your luggage, definately not for the inexperienced traveller.

We stayed in this hotel for 4 nights. The room was quite small and the bathroom even smaller, but... both were trendy equipped, clean and comfortable. The room was situated into the courtyard. So, there was no noise from the street. Continental breakfast was included and this was served on the fifth floor on the cozy terrace with stunning views of the Rome and Vatican.
We absolutely recommend their fresh croissants and cappuccinos!!! It was the best beginning of the day!
The hotel offers also free wi-fi connection in every room, two laptops available for free use, luggage deposition etc. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. The hotel is located a little farther from the city center, but there is a good tram connection (currently every 5 minutes).
We were satisfied and we can highly recommend this hotel.

It is impossible to sleep or rest in this hotel. The noise levels on this Hotel are unbearable; there is no noise isolation whatsoever. The building is part hotel and part residential (apartments) there is no separation. Floors are marble everywhere but the room (floating floor), very thin walls separating rooms noise comes from every direction. There is wind blowing across the floors. Some rooms are immediately next to the kitchen, breakfast area. Rooms are dusty, very superficial cleaning. Staff is not pleasant or service minded, act as if doing you a favour. Unprofessional too, after I have complained about noise and wind coming into our room from corridors, and been told there was nothing they could do, the receptionist asked me for a cigarette…Was supposed to stay 5 nights, left after the first sleepless night. If it was not for booking.com helping find another hotel my holidays would have been ruined. Terrible “hotel”…if you can call it an hotel anyway.

STAFF_ASTRID, Guest Relations Manager at BEST WESTERN Hotel Astrid, responded to this review, 22 May 2012
Dear Sir,
Thank you for taking the time to write a letter about the accommodations you
received at our hotel. I am deeply concerned that our hotel did not meet
your expectations; please accept my sincere apology. Guest satisfaction is the goal of
our management. We will do our best to meet that goal.
I am very sorry if the presence of offices or aparments in the other side of the building disturbed your stay as well as I do apologize if the wind did not let you rest.
I also want to beg your pardon if our staff (both cleaning and reception) did not make you feel comfortable. It is very strange, considering feedback we receive from our guests (even reading other reviews on this site), they have been so unfriendly. We will take care of efficency of our crew.
We hope to continue to meet the standards of Best Western and thereby take pride in our membership in that chain.
We look forward to a future opportunity to better serve your lodging needs
Sincerely
