“Perfect quaint hotel with quality, elegance and hospitality”
Reviewed 4 April 2012

After being referred to this wonderful hotel in the heart of Rome we were a bit suspicious due to the very affordable price. After arriving finding the elegant lobby with very helpful staff and being escorted to our room in an adjoining building which was exactly what we needed: comfort with all the expected ammenities. The hotels has an elevator, WiFi in the lobby, Happy Hour with free wine and snacks as well as included breakfast and I highly recommend Hotel Picasso! Tell them Paul Klink referred you. Live Aloha, Paul Klink

Room Tip: All the rooms we've seen through the doorways and our room are simply perfect.

Hotel Picasso is part of a small chain, RQH, and although we booked the Picasso we stayed at the Hotel Caravaggio which was just around the corner. We were greeted in reception by friendly efficient staff. The room was on the second floor at the side of the building, and had no view, but we wanted to see the sights of Rome, not sit in a hotel room, so no problem for us. The room was clean, comfortable, furnished in traditional Italian style one level up from shabby chique, and the small ensuite room quite adequate with a good shower. The room was made up every day while we were out. Breakfast was served between 7:30 and 9:30pm and was standard continental fayre. There was a bit of a squeeze sitting at some tables in the breakfast area. The ancient Roman forum was 15 minutes walk down the Via Nazionale, and Termini Station a similar distance. If you want a no frills, convenient and inexpensive base from which to explore Rome, you can't do much better than Hotel Caravaggio. We would definitely stay here again. Well done RQH.

My advice is to ignore the 'one star' rating. The reason this hotel is rated as 'one star' is because no reception is within the hotel block. However, please note that a 24 hr reception is available within 50 metres away from the hotel - no big deal to walk 50m! The hotel is warm and clean. The cleaners make sure you have everything you need.

The windows of the hotel do not stop sound from entering the room but its not like you're on a highway! This hotel is located about 100m away from Via Nazzionale. The sound problem did not bug us at all but it might bug some people who are too sensitive to noise. If that's the problem them go to Hawaii not Rome :)

Breakfast room is way too small for the hotel and the breakfast is nothing extraordinary....but hey...considering the price you pay for this hotel...its still very good! You get bread, orange juice, cofee, cake, crossaints etc... The bread was a bit dry and I do recommend that the management take note of this.

So my advice is: if you are looking for a warm, cheap, clean place to stay in the centre of Rome (walking distance from all attractions!)...and you are not expecting a silver service, then I will highly recommend this hotel. Again, do not worry about the '1 star' rating...in fact, you will wonder why it is a '1 star' at the end of your holiday.

In my opinion is hotel is great...I will go again in future when I visit Rome.

Room Tip: We had the corner room on the 1st floor. I think this is bigger in size....

We stayed at Hotel Picasso for 4 nights at the beginning of Nov. Low season had started and the price was amazing. There were 7 people in our group and we had 4 rooms. All of us were happy with the hotel. Yes, it was a little bit inconvenient having to drop our keys at the reception desk in the Caravaggio Hotel a block away, each time we went in or out, but it was no big deal. Yes, the elevator was old and required a ten cent piece to work, but if you were on the 4th floor (appears that rooms only are on 1 and 4th floors) the reception desk gave you the coins and no doubt you could ask for more if you ran out. The breakfast room was very small as people have said. But only once during our stay were any of us not able to get a seat when we first came down. There are not very many rooms at this hotel so they do not need a large breakfast room. The breakfast was very good. Coffee, tea, hot chocolate, toast, croissants, buns, pastries, fresh fruit, yogurt, cookies. We certainly found it to be good enough! We had been given a triple room on the first floor, so it was very spacious and we were able to leave our luggage opened on the extra bed. The bed was fairly firm, but we find that to be the case throughout Europe. We had no complaints about the cleanliness or quietness of the room. The air conditioning unit worked very well and with the windows closed we heard no sounds from the street. Our friends in other rooms found they slept well also. One room on the fourth floor had a foam mattress which they reported was very comfy. One person had booked a single room, thinking that it would be cheaper. It was only 1 euro less and it was so tiny she could barely move around. However when she complained after the first night they moved her into a double room and she was more than happy with the management. We loved being able to call from room to room on the phone since you can't just go to visit at another room as there are interior security doors. Our only complaint about the hotel is that it is very inconvenient that there is no wifi in the hotel. However, we were able to take our laptop over to the reception desk and sit in their lobby and use the wifi. They also had a guest laptop there that we could use. So although it was inconvenient, it did not bother us all that much as we do not go on vacation to Rome to spend much time on the computer!! One thing we were really impressed by was the reception desk staff. They all had excellent English and they were SO helpful and informative. We had the lady there one day book us a company to take the 7 of us to Civitavecchia to catch a cruise ship. And we were more than pleased with her help and with the arrangements she made for us. The location of the Picasso is good. It was about a ten minute walk to Termini. There were some nice restaurants in the area of the hotel and we felt very comfortable walking around the area at night. We would gladly stay at Hotel Picasso again (if the price was right). It is not a fancy hotel, but it met all our needs. It was clean, comfortable, quiet, economical, had a decent breakfast and it was close enough to the Metro and train station. So unless you are really fussy about your hotels, I'd say give it a try. We saved a lot of money by staying here and we were happy with the hotel.

Room Tip: I'd ask for a first floor room if I stayed again as rooms appear only to be on first and fourth...

We were booked into here by the nice guy at the hotel desk at Termini station after a couple of other ghastly hotel experiences in Rome. He asked the owner to give us a good room so we got a nice decent enough size room on the top floor overlooking the Viminal. The only drawback was that everyday the owner whinged and whinged about how she had given us the 'quadruple room'!!! (The room was ok for two people but for four people it would have been a case of fighting for breathing space......god knows how she gets four adults sleeping in there) The breakfast room was tiny but overall a good experience, I liked the view on the Viminal and other than the owner's whinging and sighing it was fine.
