good hotel, very close to metro. Reception staff very friendly and very helpful. Breakfast was fine, everything you needed, does get crowded though. Lots of restaurants in the vicinity. We were spoilt for choice. Hotel has a nice bar area. We used the metro a lot, Only one euro, how good is that. We had no problem with pickpockets, but all our money was well protected. I know people do have problems. The rooms are fine, slightly small and slightly dark, but since we only used them to sleep, which we did very well, everything was fine.

I had sent off an email to the hotel prior to arrival simply asking them to try to consider a few requests for our stay with them. Much to our delight they had read it and I'm happy to report they were able to meet our needs. We were traveling with another couple and they gave us two non smoking rooms next to each on the second floor. Our room #218 was a corner room just a little larger than our friends next door. You know rooms in Europe are very small. The free Wi Fi worked in both rooms, and the rooms we had were quiet. Some of their rooms face the street and many have written they aren't as quiet. The front desk helped us in so many ways and a special thanks to M.Sylvia Piras who helped us when we checked in with all our requests. If you have a need when staying at Villafranca simply ask and they will do all they can to help. The breakfast was lovely and plentiful. I think you will enjoy your visit here and I know you will enjoy Rome. We traveled on a Delta Vacation plan and simply had to pay at check out the city tax fee.

Room Tip: Ask for room #218. Or ask for a room not facing the street if bothered by noise. Our towels and was...

The Hotel Villafranca is ok. It is close to Termini staion and the Metro station. However I would not recommend riding the Metro as we were pickpocketed TWICE. Made for a very expensive trip. Take a taxi.
The a/c in our first room did not work. We were moved to a second room on the 6th floor which was much nice and the a/c worked great. The breakfast buffet is very nice. The staff was helpful for the most part. More like a 3 star than a 4 star.

Room Tip: 6th floor in back of hotel seem to be better.

We stayed 3 nights at the Villafranca early in May. The hotel is only about 5 minutes walk from Termini station which is where the buses from the airport stop.

Our room was small with very little storage space. However there was a safe in the room and also air-conditioning. The bathroom was also small with a shower cubicle that is only around 75cm square. The maids came in each day we were there and changed the towels each time.

Breakfast was ok and of the continental variety. Vending machines are dotted around the hotel for drinks and snacks. Reception were generally helpful. There is a bar at the hotel which shuts at 11:30.

Although the hotel is not central its proximity to Termini station means it is easy to use public transport. All trips are just 1€ or you can get a day pass for 4€. Even though it is not central there are a number of attractions such as Piazza Republica, Santa Maria Maggiore and National Museum which are within 15 minutes walk. Even the colosseum is only around 20 minutes away.

Mamma Angela's restaurant is in Via Palestro (round the corner) and was very good. Leonetti's is also good and not too far away.

Some of the guidebooks suggest the area around Termini station is a little seedy but we did not experience any problems.

Rome is a great sight-seeing city and the centre is small enough to walk around. I might even have time to go in the museums next time I go!

Note1 - On checking out we had to pay a 'city tax'
Note2 - We used Terravision buses to get to and from the airport. It was only 4€ each to Rome and 6€ each to the airport. However the organisation of getting on the buses is a little shambolic especially in Rome. If you are in a hurry, I recommend you use someone else.

Stayed 5 nights in May so it was helpful that the air-conditioning worked very well. Also happy with the good WiFi. There's also a computer with printer in the lobby. What pleased me most was to find a full bathtub! Although the Metro station is quite close, I still did a tremendous amount of walking every day. Was a treat to be able to soak in the tub every day. Found the staff to be friendly and helpful, and was also pleased that some smoking rooms are still available. Not thrilled about the old style bedspread...prefer to have a comforter and duvet cover so that I can be sure it is washed between each use. The carpet in my room was in desperate need of being shampooed, but for the very reasonable price, I was satisfied.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a bathtub.
