My 17 year old daughter and I stayed in Fraterna Domus Convent on via Monte Brianzo. We had a wonderful experience. The Room was clean and simple. We felt very safe here at night. The curfew worked out fine and was probably best that two women were safely tucked in by 11 pm. The breakfast was wonderful. If you arrived around 7:30 the rolls were fresh out of the oven. It was a traditional Italian breakfast of rolls, bread, and spreads. a light fare, but when in Rome.... The nunns do not speak English, although Sr. Milena does a good job of communicating. We had no problem getting directions or bus numbers when we asked. We would stay here on our next visit to Rome!

Room Tip: We selected the room with a private bathroom. Worth the money. To find the convent you need to go...

We recently stayed here for four nights while in Rome. Location is great and it is very reasonably priced. It caters to a lot of school groups, especially for meals, but we were not disturbed at all during our stay. Our room was high up in the building with some views of the surrounding roof tops so we were not disturbed at all by other guests. We were able to walk all over Rome from here and enjoyed getting lost in the surrounding streets. A very authentic Rome experience.

I booked this convent room through monasterystays.com and was shocked to find out that they pre-payment of 99 euro went straight to the website. Beware, monasterystays.com is simply a travel agent and takes a large commission for the booking. If I had known this I would have looked a little harder to find out how to book directly with the convent. Here is a site I just found for that:

http://www.santasusanna.org/comingToRome/convents.html

As for the actual stay...the rooms are small and sparse but clean. The sisters are welcoming and they serve a great lunch or dinner at reasonable prices. Beware though that the building is odd shaped (we found it charming) and might require some steep steps to get to your room which could be difficult if you have a weak knee.

The location can't be beat except for the noise! But I wonder if there is any place in Rome without noise.

Air conditioners didn't work so if it was hotter we would not have been happy.

Our family of 4 (with two teenage boys) stayed here for 7 nights in January. The location is absolutely fantastic, within walking distance to Piazza Navona, Vatican Musuem, St Peter's Basilica, Pantheon - we even walked to the Colosseum! Throughout our trip to Italy we were looking for a different accommodation experience in each city and in Rome we decided to try staying in a convent (which I booked with Sister Milena over the internet and a couple of phone calls to confirm everything). Our room was small and basic (containing beds, small table and 1 chair and a tiny bathroom) but very clean. As we spent all day out sightseeing, this wasn't too much of a problem. Having no TV meant our boys played card games and read books to pass any time we had in the room. We found many wonderful local and inexpensive places to eat around this area and it always felt safe to be walking around at night with the kids. We ate in the dining room a few times and really enjoyed the meals. The nuns were always polite and accommodating. If you are looking for clean, inexpensive centrally located accommodation in Rome, Fraterna Domus ticks those boxes, staying here was a good experience for our family.

My husband and I were traveling on a budget and this was the perfect option for us. We made our reservations through email [--] and corresponded with Sister Milena. Our room was 84 euro per night for a room with two twin beds, this also included breakfast. The sisters also serve a nice dinner for 14 euro per person. The rooms were very clean, although quite small. The bathroom was very interesting, with the shower right in the middle of the bathroom next to the toilet. The location was great, within walking distance of many sights and close to bus stops. We were basically looking for a clean place to sleep and shower and that's what we got. I would definitely recommend it to other travelers.
