“Great hotel in Rome”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 September 2012

My family and I spent three nights at this lovely modern hotel during our recent stay in Rome. The hotel was a welcomed surprise. In a city filled with history and old buildings it was a refreshing treat ending our hectic days of sightseeing relaxing in this modern and very clean hotel with its spacious rooms and modern bathrooms. The concierge staff are terrific and ever so helpful. They recommeded great restaurants and offered tips on how best to get around the city. The cleaning staff do a fantastic job keeping things in order. I highly recommend this hotel!!!

Modern hotel, clean, small room, friendly staff, hard bed, great location near Rome Termini train station and National Museum and across Opera House. We didn't even hail a taxi coming or going. Great rates.

This was a great hotel in a great location. It's close to two Metro stations so it was very easy to get around. Rome was our first stop on a two week trip through Italy so we spent the first few days adjusting to the time difference. It was nice to go out early in the morning to see something and hop on the Metro so we could return to the hotel for a quick nap and shower and then go out in the evening.

iQ Hotel was very clean and quiet. The rooms are not large by American standards but they have everything you need and they were clean. Compared to other hotels that we visited the beds were very comfortable. The A/C worked well. The staff was helpful and friendly. They were patient with all of our questions and always eager to help. They definitely understand the importance of customer service.

The hotel has a great rooftop terrace and it was nice to be able to bring our own bottle of wine up there to enjoy. We even picked up food from a restaurant so we could spend more time on the terrace. Right next to the door that goes out to the terrace they have a vending machine that sells wine, beer, and other items. We bought a 5 euro bottle of wine and were pleasantly surprised by how much we liked it. The machines all throughout the hotel sell the least expensive water, soda, and other drinks and snacks.

The breakfast buffet was well worth the 10 euros that we paid for it. One cappuccino or espresso is at least 3 euros outside of the hotel but we enjoyed as much as we wanted with our breakfast. They have fresh fruit, pastries, cereal, yogurt, scrambled eggs (much better than the U.S. version), and lots of meat choices. It was great to start the day with a filling breakfast before hitting the sights.

We would definitely recommend this hotel and will certainly be back at this hotel if we return to Rome. After 2 weeks of traveling to other cities and hotels the iQ Hotel ended up being the favorite hotel of all four travelers in our group.

Room Tip: The other couple traveling with us had an interior room and it was larger than ours.

My husband and I stayed here for two nights in August before taking a cruise. We were sold on this hotel because of the high ranking on Trip Advisor and because we thought it would have air conditioning (not something guaranteed at most European hotels). While the hotel did have air, it wasn't very strong for the hot August weather. The room was clean and most of the furnishings looked as if they came from IKEA. My biggest disappointment with the hotel would be in its location. Near the termini station and lots of other hotels, the area lacks the charm of Rome. There are tons of restaurants around, but none that looked authentic (menus in five different languages). The front desk staff was very helpful. You can easily walk to the Colosseum from the hotel. My advice for first time visitors would be to stay near the Pantheon, as we did during our first visit a few years ago. And don't forget to get some gelato at Giolitti!

RomeGR, Guest Relations Manager at iQ Hotel Roma, responded to this review, 2 October 2012
Dear guest,

Thank you for writing a review on our property, as well as your kind words on our staff.
We would like to address some of the issues you mention on your review, one by one.
Our air-conditioning installation is an up-to-date system that combines temperature and humidity levels to the average standard that is commonly recognised as the ideal for human comfort, and with which most people would perceive a sense of wellness. The room temperature, although you’ve perceived it as not being very strong, is around 22° Celsius. Normally, during summer, our system has a set average of 20° and this can be increased or decreased by the guests, by 2 or 3 degrees. The temperature perceived depends on numerous factors, either physical, like one’s body mass, or environmental, for instance the windows being left opened to change the air. Also, as many other countries which have adhered to the Kyoto protocol, here in Italy there is a strict policy regarding the temperature both for air-conditioning and heaters, which have to be applied to all A/C equipment both for Hotels or private buildings, and implies that all equipment must not go lower or higher a certain average temperature.
Regarding our furniture and decoration, it was designed to be functional and modern, having in mind the needs of the hassle-free traveller. It is very much in line with the concept behind iQ Hotel and it is well pictured in all our sales channels, including Trip Advisor’s photos by reviewers. One can say that it is quite similar to IKEA, in design and ideas, but it is not where it comes from.
Finally, our hotel is conveniently located near Rome’s main train station, Termini, as well as having a metro station (Repubblica) just a short 3 minute walking away, that can take you to all the worth-seeing places in Rome. There are also numerous places of interest that you can visit within walking distance, like the Baths of Diocletian, the National Museum of Rome, the National Opera House or the wonderful basilica of Santa Maria degli Angelli e dei Martiri. It is a lively area, with a wealth of shops and restaurants to choose from, and although is not so crowded with tourists as, say the Spanish Steps or the Pantheon itself, we believe it’s a place where you can enjoy the authentic roman life, combined with a strategic position for travelling anywhere in the city.

We stayed at this hotel for two weeks. It was very clean, and well maintained. Our room was on the fourth floor facing the inside court yard. The hotel also provides free Wifi which was slow but nice to stay connected. They have a business center but there is a charge to use it. The provide free printing, but faxing costs 5 euro per use. The staff was very friendly and every staff person we encountered spoke english which was very nice. The hotel is located on a very quite street so you don't hear traffic and aren't bombarded with tons of people. It's location was also great since it was very close to the metro, and near very affordable cafe's. Some of the frustrating things of our hotel was the cleaning service personal started at about 4 in the morning washing sheets on the bottom floor of the hotel and it echo's up into the court yard making very loud noises. The laundry room they provide is very nice, but to be warned there is only one washer and one dryer, consisting of 3 euro per use. The dryer didn't dry so wasn't really worth the cash, i'd recommend bringing a clothes line for your room. Just to forewarn you the beds are very hard, but from what I've heard and read it's very common. Besides these minor things our stay was great, and would stay here again if we ever go to Rome.

Room Tip: Rooms on higher floors and facing the street
