“A home from home...dont change!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 July 2012

We stayed at Gil Scipioni B&B for 5 nights last week. From the start booking and correspondence with David the owner was very efficent all questions where answered promptly and nothing was too much trouble. This attitude continued when we arrived and where given a grand tour by David and he went over in length all the hints and tips for getting the best out of your trip. We stayed in the Red room at the end of the corridor furthest away from the kitchen you did not hear much noise or see the other guests anyway and your really felt like it was your own private apartment.
Our room and the apartment is keep immaculately clean by Carlo the cleaner who comes daily. He gave us fresh bottles of water and anything else that needed replenished in our room every day. Great to have a fridge and decent air con as it was so hot when we where there. The communal kitchen cupboards and fridge are well stocked to bursting with everything you need for breakfast and the ice creams and desserts are a nice touch when in need of a snack. You never felt that anything was running out. I am so glad we made the choice to stay in a B&B and this one far exceeded my expectations. I hope nothing changes I can honestly say there is nothing they have missed real home comforts. Its a great location 2 mins walk to the Metro and a short stroll to the Vatican. I will highly recommend this to anyone I know coming to Rome.
Grazie David!

David the owner of the B&B is a great person to get insight local information of all tourist location and specially the tourist traps. David sat with us on day one with a map and noted all the good places and the great places to go and see in Rome.

Room Tip: All of the rooms are great.

Let me start by saying that David, the owner and proprieter, makes it the place we plan on going back to when we return to Rome again. His help, kindness, graciousness, knowledge, and "Uncle David's Tips" combined to make our few days in Rome easy and filled with fun.

The building is a beautiful old one on one of the side-streets just blocks from the Vatican. You even take a tiny old-style (circa 1920's perhaps?) lift up to the room.

The room itself is incredibly clean, well-maintained, and well-appointed with every little thing you can think you may need, including a robe and slippers. The bathroom is a bit tight (we were in the Orange room), but also note we had three people in the room, which is really set up more for two. For just two it all would have been absolutely lovely. It is a little tight with three (the couch is made into a bed, so no seating area) - on the other hand, it really was fine, especially as the intent was not to hang out in the room but go out and see Rome. This room is right next to the common kitchen area where you make and eat your own breakfast (self-serve all the way, but we rather liked the freedom in this). We had no issues with noise, however, even that close to the main door and common area. David thought of everything for breakfast, even self-serve breakfast, including a Cappucino and Espresso maker.

For convenience to basically everything in Rome, you can't find better. It is in an easy walk or very short taxi ride to, well... everything. And David will help you figure out the best times and ways to get wherever you need to go. He also recommends wonderful places to eat, all of which we tried and all of which we loved (the place next door does indeed have incredible meat, and across the street is the best pizza.) Take David's tips and advice, they will not lead you astray!

For couples and regular travelers especially, you will find Gli Scipioni to be a jewel in the heart of the city. For those who want hotel-style service and prepared breakfast and etc, this may not be exactly what you want (though our mom at 81 enjoyed herself and didn't seem to miss any of that). On the other hand, if you want a place at a great price that is clean, safe, friendly, modern, well-appointed, and right in the middle of it all, along with a great host who treats you like an old friend from the moment you arrive, well, you won't do better than Gli Scipioni.

Two ladies sharing a room for a week in Rome and David made our stay very comfortable by helping us with directions, booking our tour for the Vatican and all around a wonderful host. He recommended restaurants nearby and provided us with a map and helped us plan our visit. He truly wants you to enjoy Rome while there. The fridge was stocked daily with cheese, meat, bread, milk, yogurts, juice and ice cream bars. There were about six different cereals to choose from and coffee and teas.
The rooms were cleaned daily and he beds were very comfortable. David makes himself accessible at all times if there is anything you need or if it's just advice you want. I would stay there again.
Thanks David for being a great host to us.
