Everything about both Procida and Casa di Lidia was perfect for the traveller who likes to be a bit off the beaten path. Casa di Lidia has the most magnificent view of the harbour and Mount Vesuvius. It well appointed with anything you could want and Giancarlo and Pina were readily available to help with any extra desires. The house is lovely and decorated in a timeless Italian-style. I understand why the listing says not suitable for children as there are many glass tables, beautiful figurines and much else to break. Moreover a mischievous or unsupervised child could possibly get through the hedge and be dangerously close to the cliff. Despite this, Lidia permitted us to bring our young daughter (almost 3) with a gentle reminder of these risks. Elizabeth loved the property as much as the rest of us, I never felt that she was unsafe and the beautiful decor stayed in tacked thankfully.
I will miss the tranquil mornings drinking tea and watching the harbour come to life as well as listening to the sounds of the town as it winds down for the night.
The property is within walking distance of the harbour and the picturesque area/town Coricella but and many restaurants but if walking is not for you, taxi cabs are available for hire (typically 12 euros).
Giancarlo and Pina met us and made sure we were settled. The also helped us to arrange a boat ride around the island which is not to be missed.
A trip to Pompeii was also an easy ferry ride to Naples and then many ways to Pompeii from there.
The food on the island was wonderful and we particularly liked Girone in Chiaiolella and thought this was the best beach as well. However, the beach at Chiaia and a meal at Conchioglia was also lovely and had a spectacular view of Coricella and the fortress on the hill.
Overall, having travelled over the world and been to over 100 countries, this was both my husband's and my favourite vacation location. I would highly recommend it to anyone enjoys beautiful views, authenticity, good food, a brisk walk and tranquility.
