“Beautiful old world apartment”
Reviewed 14 March 2016 for a stay in January 2016

We stayed in Claudia's beautiful apartment for 4 nights in January as a family of four. Claudia was a fantastic host. She was easy to communicate with, answered all questions and even provided us with a mobile phone to contact her while we were in Naples. The apartment is very spacious and comfortable. It is full of antique furniture and artworks that give it a distinctly Neapolitan flavour. The kitchen is very small as previously mentioned really only enough to make breakfast and a packed lunch but there are so many fabulous and reasonably priced restaurants nearby that this is not an issue at all.
The only downside really is that the apartment is quite noisy as the square is very lively until the early hours of the morning especially on the weekends but this is probably the case all through toehold city. If you are a poor sleeper this might not be the place for you.
Despite being a bit tired we had a wonderful stay.

“Fantasic stay in the beating heart of Naples”
Reviewed 25 September 2015 for a stay in September 2015

Four friends and I spent a wonderful two weeks in Claudia's 16th century palace apartment in the heart of the old quarter. The location was ideal for sightseeing and dining and was within walking distance of many interesting neighborhoods. There was also a taxi stand on our square for trips further afield. The apartment is located on a lively square with evening partying and entertainment. At bedtime we needed to close the tall windows and wooden shutters overlooking the square, which was no problem because Claudia provides large floor fans and we kept the interior courtyard windows open. The rooms are tall and airy, beautifully decorated with antiques. The kitchen is tiny, suitable for one cook only, a good reason to visit the wonderful neighborhood restaurants. Claudia made 3 trips to the airport to personally escort and orient us to the apartment and Naples. She is so gracious and helpful. The apartment and Naples are both magical!

“throughout history holiday”
Reviewed 9 May 2015 for a stay in May 2015

The Domus Decumana is a beautiful arranged historical holiday home on a scenic piazza in the heart of Napoli. It is very well kept and clean. Both the bedrooms have good bathrooms. We and our two granddaughters , 11 and 12 years old, loved the interior, the view on the piazza, the nice balcony. The surrounding streets are very picturesque. You have to like the hustle and bustle of the city, we were there in the weekend and it was noisy outside until late night. The girls slept all night, and we got used to it. But it was worth it. There is a possibility to sleep in the sitting room, which is less noisy. Claudia received us very friendly. She lives elsewhere, but you can always call her if you need her.

“Spacious Apartment in Historic Centre”
Reviewed 25 July 2014 for a stay in July 2014

We stayed at the apartment for 5 nights last week (2 adults and 2 teenage children) and would recommend it. The apartment is in the historic centre of Naples overlooking Piazza San Domenica Maggiore on Spaccanapoli, the main walking route through the historic centre.

The owner Claudia dealt with our booking quickly and effectively – the apartment was booked through TA.

We took a taxi from the airport and Claudia met us at the apartment with welcome drinks and snacks. Some bread, biscuits and crackers were provided. Despite the building being old, there is a lift in the courtyard. The apartment is large with plenty of space. There are two reception rooms decorated with old paintings, statues, a piano (sadly out of tune), etc, a small but well stocked kitchen, a dining room, two bedrooms and two bathrooms. The apartment has very tall ceilings, the dining room ceiling is beautifully painted. All of the fixtures and fittings were to a good standard. Note that there is no washing machine. There is free wifi with a 500MB daily limit. Claudia provided a mobile phone for us to contact her with any questions.

The apartment looks out over Piazza san Domenica Maggiore, which as other reviewers have noted is lively. The first night, the music from a nearby bar was pretty loud, but other nights we didn’t notice it. The apartment has wooden shutters which block out quite a bit of the noise. However, if you are light sleeper, I would say this apartment is probably not for you.

The location of the apartment is great for covering the sights in central Naples. The historic centre is all within walking distance, numerous churches and the San Severo chapel with the Veiled Christ within 2 minutes walk. The National Archeological Museum is also within walking distance (about 15 minutes). There are plenty of places to eat on Spaccanapoli and in the Piazza del Gesu. There is a Carrefour Express supermarket within 5 minutes walk. The apartment is about 10 minutes walk from the metro station at Piazza Dante. You can also easily walk to the funicular railway at Montesanto to get to Castel Sant Elmo.

Claudia also organized a car tour of the Amalfi coast taking in Sorrento, Positano, Furore, Amalfi and Ravello. Although this is a long day, this is highly recommended and is a great way to get a taster for the various towns. We did day trips by public transport to Vesuvius and Pompeii.

Note that Naples is a lot grittier than some other Italian cities that we have visited – there seemed to be more graffiti on the buildings and peddlers on the streets. My wife got doused with a bucket of water by some teenagers on a passing moped on our last night. However, whilst we were more alert to street crime, aside from the above incident, we did not experience any problems. Despite this, Naples is well worth a visit.

“A valued experience.”
Reviewed 23 June 2014 for a stay in June 2014

DOMUS DECUMANA is a beautifully restored and decorated apartment run by the highly efficient, friendly and helpful Claudia (whose grasp of the english language is a real bonus).

The accomodation is spacious, clean and well equipped with bedding, towels and crockery. The apartment contains the most beautiful ceiling decorations, the walls are adorned with interesting paintings and the rooms contain antique collectibles and books -there is even a piano in the main sitting room!

The location, overlooked from the large floor to ceiling windows, is a lively, vibrant, predominantly 17th C. PIAZZA SAN DOMENICO MAGGIORE, situated slap-bang in the middle of Naples and in walking distance of what the CENTRO HISTORICO has to offer for lovers of history, architecture, archaeology and shopping not to mention pizza, pasta, pastries and prosecco!

Unfortunately the lack of kitchen space is not for those of us who enjoy cooking and the main sitting area could be a far more social room if there was a second sofa or comfy arm-chair. The lack of a washing machine may also be a problem if staying for more than a week.....

Having said that, I would definitely stay there again.
