We stayed at this hotel with five other couples for 4 days. The decor is beautiful but the service is terrible. We expected a dream holiday in a five star hotel on the Isle of Capri. Even though it was situated directly on the sea overlooking the harbour we could not find the path leading down to the beach.

The rooms facing the streetside are noisy and the balcony overlooks private homes across the street with laundry hanging out the windows and living rooms facing onto your balcony. We couldn't pull our bedroom drapes for fear of people peaking in. The penthouse was fine but almost 3,000.00 a night. Thus our great expectations.

The Spa was never open, the pool closed around 3PM and the hotel restaurant was never opened. We sat down to breakfast outside by the pool and waited and waited and waited. Finally one of us wandered through the hotel searching for the door to the kitchen so we could place our breakfast order. Everyone was just so rude and acted as though they were doing you a favor. In the evening we met for cocktails before
leaving for dinner and had to set up our own table on the hotel patio. Again someone had to hunt for the waiter. Getting our bill upon check-out was difficult as the hotel wanted to put everyone on the same bill. We would never stay there again.

Room Tip: Rooms facing the sea have a wonderful view. Rooms facing the street are noisy and the balcony is no...

We were doing a tour of the Amalfi Coast and stayed at the JK mid way thru the trip. Although this hotel is lovely and a true Ralph Lauren feel from top to bottom, it's location does not justify the price nor did the service. Four of us were on vacation and after running in to the same guests everywhee we went to eat we realized we were all being told the same places. Some guests were travel agents and were getting a clearly different service level. It is a small hotel so you do notice. The rooms are gorgeuos and spacious, but ours overlooked the very "public beach" which we could not even figure put how to get to. Overlooking the sea is great, but this hotel overlooks the harbor that brings every boat to the island. Walking to the vernicular was easy but that was it. Out shutlle drivers were great and curteous, but again we felt like certain guest were getting preferrential treatment. After 2 nights we were ready to go and at the next stop ran in to the travel agents again and they confirmed their service as far superior to ours (different restauranst, free boat rides, special tours..).for the price of this hotel, everyone should receive equal service. We found our way thru friends to a private beach club on Capri that the hotel "was surprised we found" . Would not give this hotel a 5 star, rather a 4 and really look at the location when going to Capri.

If there was a 6 star to give to any hotel..this place deserves it! We stayed here for 3 nights on our honeymoon and it was above our expectations! The interior design is top notch for being right on the Capri coast overlooking the sea filled with multiple million dollar yachts. Breakfast was amazing with its buffet and the ability to order complimentary eggs any style. We stayed in room #9, which was down one flight from the entrance, but it is on a cliff, so the rooms are built into the side of the cliff. Our room had to be one of the best as it had an extremely private balcony and one of the largest hotel bathrooms I've ever seen, including our own jacuzzi tub big enough for 4 people. Beds were comfy and the room was spotless. Concierge service was also 5-star, having set up dinner reservations and a private boat to go around the island. Even though this hotel is a 5 minute drive to the "center of downtown capri", it is definitely worth staying here. There was never a time where I had to wait more than 5 minutes for the JK Place's car service to pick up or drop us off at any location. I think we actually only had to wait one time for the car (5 minutes max). Staff is extremely accommodating and very friendly. Highly recommend this place..especially for a honeymoon! We will be back soon!

STRUCTURE: a large villa overlooking the sea, all white with contrasting blue of the sea. Elegant, a wind of fresh air.
LOBBYING: how to get into a private house, luxurious, romantic and nostalgic with family pictures, books and blue vases.
ROOMS: decor totally different from all other hotels in the world, I would say unique furnishings, the architect Bonan struck at the essence of Capri and the Blue Grotto. Marble bathrooms with shower for two people, wash tub and double quotation. From the windows of the room is small balconies with views into the sea of breathtaking sunsets. Well cared for cleaning and maintenance of all environments.
RESTAURANT: dinner in a private terrace overlooking the sea of Capri at sunset, next to a granite sphinx overlooking the sea, will forever remain in my heart. Food-grade products, especially the mozzarella di bufala, prosciutto and figs.
PERSONAL: young, friendly, like a movie, with their beautiful blue and white striped jacket.
OVERALL: a hotel to go with her lover:)))

Hotel websites often try to present their establishments as something more than reality through creative photography and presentation. At JK Place, the images from their website are actually very good representations of the decor and ambiance. As a nice and much needed change of pace, the minimalistic approach that has become common over the past decade as far as sophisticated hotel decor goes has been thrown out the window at JK Place in Capri (it would actually be nice to see other hotels follow JK's lead in this regard). High quality furnishings, fixtures, decor and textiles, all in a modern italian marine interpretation, create interior surroundings that are warm and inviting. Art work, mirrors, pictures, light fixtures, ceramics and furniture fill the walls, open areas and corners. The motif extends consistently throughout the reception, living rooms, dining room, bedrooms, veranda, pool area and spa.

The location, set cliffside heading up the mountain about 500 yards from Marina Grande, provides easy access to the piazza in the center of Capri without being in the middle of the tourist crowds. Access from the marina to the hotel is accomplished either by a short 7 to 10 minute uphill walk or, alternatively, through use of the hotel's complementary shuttle service that can pick you up upon arrival at the marina (assuming you arrived by ferry service or private yacht transfer). Once at the hotel, getting to the piazza in the center of Capri is accomplished either by the hotel's on-demand shuttle service (about 10 minutes), or by walking back down to the marina and then taking the Funicular Railway (mountain tram) up to Capri's main square.

From our perspective, being away from the tourist crowds (which are jam packed during the day until about 5:30pm when the last ferry departs the island) was more desirable than having immediate access to the center of Capri. At the same time, there are very few other establishments on the  island that have the same brilliant and aspiring sea views experienced at JK Place given it's cliff side location. The trade off between the views and remote location are worthwhile.

The service provided by the staff was consistent throughout the property, whether sitting on the veranda for a cocktail, lounging by the pool, enjoying a spa treatment or dining at the restaurant. The service can best be described  as understated, gracious, with an aim to please; and, above all else, everyone always had a genuine smile. The staff are professional and take pride in their efforts. There appears to be a high ratio of staff to guests given the limited number of rooms which creates a warm and friendly atmosphere where the staff are proactive and are not overloaded. The staff appear to genuinely enjoy what they do; and in combination with the above attributes, enables a guest to feel right at home.

The rooms are well cared for with crisp linen sheets and comfortable beds and pillows; including a sitting area with a  flat screen satellite television (although most channels are in Italian), a sofa and side chair (this was for rooms 21 and 22 on the 2nd floor). The bathroom included a separate dressing room which, taken together, was large and decorated with beautiful mosaic tiles, high quality fixtures and fittings, marble trim and a deep tub (the connecting room for our early teen girls included a shower only however).

While many of the sea side facing rooms have small balconies, our two rooms, in particular, had oversized patios overlooking the marina and beach below with lounge chairs and a small table that provided a nice private escape to enjoy breakfast or relax at the end of the day. As a minor area of improvement, the light colored throw rugs in the guest rooms are showing a little bit of wear and tear, as are some of the white walls where the furniture leans against them; otherwise, the guest rooms appeared well maintained.

The large pool, with it's cliffside setting had breathtaking views of the Capri mountains and deep blue sea while being surrounded by lush vegetation and landscaping. The lemon trees and hedges provided an appropriate barrier between the pool and the road that leads down to the marina, although larger trucks could be heard on occasion from the pool as they pass the hotel.

The pool area included sufficient lounge chairs, tables and seats around the pool (both shaded or unshaded) to ensure all guests had a place to relax. At the same time, while the pool itself was very large, the setting is actually surprisingly intimate given the limited number of other guests at the hotel. Poolside service ensured towels were readily available and a cocktail, bottle of wine or other refreshment was never far away.

For all of breakfast, lunch and dinner, meals were enjoyed on the veranda alfresco overlooking the harbor, anchored yachts and Capri Mountains on the veranda with pleasant cool breezes. The inside dining room was always an option, but would have sacrificed the great weather and views. Creative and unpretentious italian gourmet meals with a focus on local dishes and fresh ingredients were made available (and the pasta was truly outstanding).  While off the menu offerings on request and daily specials provide variety beyond the planned menus. The meals were first class and delicious, while being complemented by attentive yet unobtrusive service.

A sampling of our dinner for four from our 1st night included a starter "gift" from the chief of deep fried cauliflower; while we enjoyed the asparagus and leek pie with cheese fondue for an appetizer. The pasta course consisted of a tortilla pasta stuffed with caciotta cheese and marjoram served with courgettes and basil sauce; and a linguine with fresh shellfish and tomatoes. The main course included fresh sea bream prepared two ways - one with a light potato crust and the other coated in a tomato, basil and black olive topping; a fresh Mediterranean Sea Bass grilled with capers; a grilled filet mignon with homemade french fries, and a risotto with parmesan cheese. For desert, we were provided with several "gifts" including a chocolate mousse and cookies, while we also ordered both a cheesecake and a chocolate cake with orange sauce.  The quality of the food, it's preparation, presentation and taste were all exceptional.

Breakfast was simple, yet well prepared and included a selection of fresh breads, rolls, cakes and pastries; mellon, kiwi, pineapple, dates and figs; yogurt and cereal; and mozzarella and tomatoes all served as part of a buffet; while made to order eggs, omelets, pancakes and French toast were provided a la cart.

There is a detached full service spa and fitness center on the property adjacent to the pool area. The decor of the spa extends the general theme reflected throughout the hotel. The spa offers a full menu of options for both men and women, and they even have a special list of services aimed at young adults as well. The spa staff are professional while at the same time friendly and courteous. Our family took advantage of several services including facials, manicures and a massage. All were delivered to high standards.

If someone wants to be in the center of all the action on Capri, the JK Place is probably not the best choice; however, the ease of getting around the island from the hotel makes the location a non issue. If someone is looking for a hotel with a plethora of activities, JK Place might not fit the bill either. If, however, someone is looking for a truly relaxing escape, where you can enjoy reading a book, swim in a brilliant pool, dine on exceptional cuisine, soak in the sun while enjoying inspiring views, then JK Place fits perfectly. The hotel is expensive, but probably not off the mark when compare to the other high end properties on the island. However, given the service provided, the location, the quality of the interior and furnishings, and the terrific food, the expense is well in line with what JK Place offers.

In summary, our entire family had a fantastic stay, where all of our expectations were met and even exceeded; and we are all very much looking forward to coming back and visiting the JK Place on our next trip to Capri.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The discreet charm of the venue and the comfort of feeling at home, surrounded by precious details, this is the philosophy behind the creation of the JK Place Capri. Set into the cliffs of the enchanting island of Capri, the hotel has twenty-two rooms that echo the style and the concept of a luxury house with another element to boost the charm of the site: the light and color of the sea. Spacious rooms where the artful revival of the classical style is enhanced by the sunny curtains and the luminous white floors, highlighting the spectacular views of the Capri coastlines through the windows and panoramic balconies of the rooms. Then there are the inevitable stylish touches, such as the precious marbles and the grey and white mosaics of the bathrooms, and the supremely elegant black-and-white carpets, conceived like frames marking out the various areas of the bedrooms. The building was first inaugurated as a hotel in 1885 and rapidly became a point of reference for the nobility spending holidays on the island. Now, as then, the hotel offers a splendid pathway to the sea below, while the superb location on the Capri cliff-top gives the guest the sensation of being in absolute contact with the natural environment, almost suspended above the azure seascape. The luxury of discreet elegance and taste make the JK Place Capri a place where comfort and wellbeing are combined with an enviable panoramic position, sheer over the sea, immersed in the luxuriant coastline that has always been an exclusive destination and source of inspiration, a resort for emperors, poets and noble travelers, a haven for the soul in which you can lose yourself in admiration of the sea. ... more   less
