“the best in Capri”
Reviewed 22 July 2012

La Minerva is so good that we hesitated to write about it in tripadvisor as we wanted to keep it all to ourselves :) But it will not do the place justice. All the stellar reports from the other tripadvisor members concerning La Minerva are spot on. And more! We have stayed in numerous establishments in Capri, and La Minerva is truly the best. It holds its own very comfortably on an international level as well. Antonino, Luigi, Kamal, and all the staff are not only professional, hard working, and exceptionally good at what they do - they are special because they are genuine, generous and kind. They have kept up with the times, and somehow they have managed to tread the fine line between keeping things traditional but yet modern. I love a power shower and can confirm the water pressure in our room was as good as it gets! La Minerva is luxurious, spacious, very clean (I am a stickler for cleanliness!), and yet refreshingly unpretentious. As well, lots of special and unique touches - little notes and flowers during turn-down service, cute and interesting pieces of decoration, pretty plants/flowers, and classic movies filmed in Capri playing at a public TV area! And of course gorgeous views. Because there are few rooms, we enjoyed a lot of privacy - and on a couple of afternoons we even had the lovely pool all to ourselves! Nice mix of fellow guests (mainly couples but some families too) of all ages and from everywhere around the globe. The La Minerva family has brought 'family-run establishments' to a completely different level, and we hope they will keep up the outstanding work. In conclusion, I shall state the obvious - we hope to return soon!

We booked a superior oceanview room with balcony and were very pleased with the size and quality of the room. We had a walk in closet with plenty of storage space and a very nice sized bathroom. Our balcony was so cute and the oceanview while not what I would describe as oceanfront was very nice. Service at the hotel was superb and is what really differentiates this boutique hotel. Breakfast was great on the open air patio and cocktails in the evening were fun! We were met at the dock by a La Minerva rep who was very helpful in transferring our luggage and ensured we found the funicular for the ride to the central main square. Do not try to cart your luggage yourself!

A 3 night stay at La Minerva just didn't seem enough. Antonino was a terrific help in arranging our transfers from Rome seamlessly. His brother, Luigi, runs this hotel with his own hands-on personal touch making sure every guest is perfectly happy. Kamal ensures breakfast is a pleasurable experience that you never want to finish and Marco mixes the best cocktails to get you started before your night out on the town. We give La Minerva the highest possible recommendation.

I did not want to leave this place or Capri!!! The hotel is in a convenient location and is a short stroll to the main square. When we arrived at this hotel I realized I mixed up the reservation and was there one day early. This was completely my fault! Antonino called several hotels before finding us a room for the night. We were extremely grateful for his help as it was a Saturday in the summer and very difficult to find a room - we were very lucky to get a room that had been cancelled at the last minute.

Anyway - The hotel is beautiful, peaceful, and immaculate. The room was bright and big. We had a huge and very comfy bed. The bathroom was a very nice size and they provided a real hair dryer! I hate those european hotels with the hair dryers that have the chords connecting to the wall! We had a balcony (room 21) and an amazing view! The balcony had to chairs and a small table. The chairs had cushions and were very comfy - a lot of hotels with balconies have uncomfortable metal chairs.

The breakfast was awesome! You can order eggs and pancakes and crepes - which is not common at other Italian hotels. The water in the mini fridge in the room was free, which was awesome! Other hotels should also do this! (Do not drink the white wine in the room - it tasted like apple juice)

The pool area was so relaxing and beautiful. There are lemon trees and comfy lounge chairs with cushions! There are also umbrellas by the pool. The pool was very refreshing on hot days. My husband and I spent a lot of time lounging by the pool, waiting for the tour groups to leave before heading into town. One of the best parts of this hotel is the service! Kamal is awesome and is such a hard worker! He was always making sure everyone was comfortable and happy. He worked by the pool area and the breakfast area in the morning. We had lunch one day at the hotel in a shaded area by the pool - we had spagetti and clams and it was soooo good!

I really can't wait to go back to La Minerva and Capri!
I am a crazy planner and I do so much research before I go and stay anywhere - there is really no reason to stay anywhere else!

Room Tip: Def get a room with a view!

This hotel has everything one looks for. Amazing views, a sense of tranquility, fair pricing, outstanding staff and great location. Just a quick 5+ min walk into town but you will find yourself so comfortable in the hotel it is hard to leave. Our room had a bath tub with views of the ocean and a balcony almost the size of the room! Delicious breakfasts and lite lunches by the pool remind you Italians don't need to fuss for good food. Would happily (and hopefully) go back again soon!
