“Nice Hotel, Beautiful Island..”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 October 2011

La Palma is a nice hotel for couples in Capri. The location is very good & convenience. The hotel is designed beautifully. We liked the outdoor seating & lobby.
Check in was fast. Our room was a little small but very clean & artistically designed with paintings of Capri landscapes on the walls. However the furniture seems old. The view from the balcony was fantastic.
There was not a real double bed & 2 single beds were joined together. Bed covering was tiny & there was not a blanket. We asked for & they brought us a rough one.
Bathroom was super clean with nice amenities.
The buffet breakfast was good but it would be better if they add omelettes. Boiled eggs were cold.
The staff were not so friendly & seemed indifferent. We asked for an iron & they said it's forbidden in the hotel. Once housekeeper staff opened the door without knocking.
Overall: Good value for money, we like to come back in the future.

We stayed at the hotel for 2 nights. The hotel is very nice, amazing location, beautiful terrace. Recommend it.
However the bed sheets were not clear when we checked in. It was changed after informing them. Interent is horrible in the room but it is ok in the lobby. Staff are not friendly at all and not helpful.
Try to get a front view room as the inside rooms will have a balcony or a terrace but no view (just a wall) and a divider or partition to the adjacent balcony.
Didn't try their restaurant but it seems very busy the 2 night we stayed there. They have beautiful outdoor seating.
Must try to the bakery next to the hotel. They have delicious gelati and cannoli di ricotta.

You'll read plenty of wonderful things about La Palma. All true but here are few different items that might interest you and improve your trip to Capri.

Returning guest policy: In consequential. We vacationed with family who have been there numerous times. They were graciously greeted by the staff. The hotel was not completely filled (an entire wing appears unused) but not upgraded. They even brought 2 new couples with them. Still nothing. So we had 6 people and could not share a simple balcony together. A better hotel would show repeat clientele special privileges -especially those bringing more business to them.

Rooftop Terrace: Better Option. Take the elevator to the top floor to a terrace with 360' view of Capri. Bring up some local prosecco/wine and crackers and begin your romantic night at sunset.

Tennis: There are two (2) options to play in Capri. Clay or artificial grass. The concierge will help or you can find them on your own. Both are expensive but at least the cold water is included.

Best Bargain: Rent a boat. Avoid the tour crowds and the beach fees. Having your own boat to loop the entire island, pull up and swim in any/every cove is the best way to see Capri. From this perspective the views are more spectacular, the water is crystal clear and it's where all the beautiful people hang out. Boats are located at the marina and come stocked with cooler and beverages. Just bring a lunch or stop at any of the seaside restaurants.

See the Entire Island. Don't get stopped by the crowds in the quaint shopping district. Yes, there are a hundred steps down to the sea but there are also sloping walks to Villa Jovis and Villa Lysis. Take the cliffside bus to Alacapri for a 1/2 day excursion. Then take the tram to M. Solaro or the hike to Torre di Guardia. Take your camera and expand your options.

Room Tip: Ask for balcony or terrace facing the street. Crowds leave after 5PM.

We loved the La Palma. It was in a great location 1 minute walk from the piazza and near shops, restaurants and bars. We had a sea view room which was large and clean with a nice big balcony. The concierge was very friendly and gave us a couple of great walks to go on that we wouldn't have found otherwise. Capri is not a cheap place to go but we found the La Palma good value for money and we would certainly go back again. Restaurant tip - go to Paolini Lemon tree if you can get in - it is fantastic.

My boyfriend and I took a trip to the south of Italy in Aug of 2011. We landed in Naples and got to Capri by a ferry from the port of naples. It was a bit of a mission to get there (especially after spending about 10 hrs on the plane from Toronto) but it was worth it.
Upon arriving at the marina (Marina Grande), you can catch a cab that will take you straight to the hotel. The cab will drop you off in front of the piazza and you will have to walk about 2-3 minutes with your luggage to get to the hotel since the hotel is located on a narrow pedestrian only street. The lobby is airy and decorated with white furniture and flowy curtains. The staff speak English and will answer any questions about touring the island with great knowledge. The room was spacious and so was the balcony. We stayed on the first floor and I don't know if it was just our room but the 1 king or queen bed I requested turned out to be 2 double beds pushed together. So yes there was a crack in the middle and it was slightly uncomfortable but other aspects of the room was great. The bathroom is big and really clean. And since we had two beds pushed together to make one bigger bed, there was so much more space in the room for our luggage. There was also ample closet space for storage.
As for the location of the hotel, it was probably one of the best located hotels right in the heart of Capri. The hotel is literally 1 minute from the piazza- with a breath taking view overlooking the island and the water.
Also within 1-2 minute walking distance from the hotel is great shopping, Ferragamo, prada, tod's, a little bit further (probably 3-5 minutes), you'll get louis vuitton, hermes and other high end designer shops.
As for the food, you have so much to choose from, but we found a favourite restaurant in Capri by exploring one of the quieter streets (up the stairs from the piazza towards the pharmacy) called Donna Rechele - highly recommended.
Staying at la palma was like staying in the middle of it all! And since it was august (the busiest season for Capri) it did get very busy but I heard that in September things slow down while the weather stays hot.
We also explored other areas of the island like Faro and Anacapri but I thought that staying in the heart of Capri at la palma was really the best choice.
oh! and if you are there for more than a couple of nights, do try dinner at the hotel restaurant. Its patio overlooks the busy street so it's great for people watching and the food was fresh and delicious with amazing service.
I guess if I had to be fair, the only negative was that the bed was uncomfortable!
oh ps. this hotel also provides free wifi for 3 days which was great for any travellers that like to stay connected.
