We stayed in this hotel October 2011 and thoroughly enjoyed our stay there. We paid the extra for a superior room with a sea view and it was well worth the extra. Room was spacious, clean and comfortable and we had a fabulous view out over the bay of Naples, Sorrento and Vesuvius in the distance-was amazing both by day and night. The common areas of the hotel escpecially the piano lounge and dining room were stylish, bright and had spectacular sea views. The services provided by the hotel were efficient and friendly and of a high standard. A special word with regard to the restaurant - the service provided by the Maitre D' and his staff was excellent. Dinner in the evening was by waiter service which was a bonus; there was a gala dinner one evening which was a buffet - all the ladies received a long stemed rose which was a nice touch. The food was of an excellent standard every night and there was adequate choice. At the time we visited the hotel it was a Thomson gold hotel and therefore was couples only, but understand the hotel will be a Thomson Platinum hotel next year... In terms of location, couldnt ask for better with regard to outlook, Drawback is having to travel into the town by couresy bus which was every couple of hours - which is a bit restrictive. Could do with increasing the frequency of the service. Wouldnt risk walking into town as the driving over there is shocking and walking back is a no-no as it would be an uphill killer. The only 2 trips out of Sorrento we did was a boat trip to the Isle of Capri and a bus ride to Pompeii. Capri was a beautiful island and worth the trip. We enjoyed the trip to Pompeii but felt the half day trip was long enough as it was very tiring. The town of Sorrento is vibrant especially on a Sunday when the main Piaza is partially pedestrianised. It was nice to sit in the Fauno Bar, have a bite to eat and just people watch. There are some fantastic shops but most are very expensive - Italians love their designer labels. Leather handbag shopping is a must! The other spot we found was the Foreigners club which was pitched right on the side of a cliff overlooking the sea - the entrance is deceiving - houses tourist info, but when you go through that it opens out into indoor and outdoor restaurants with spectacular views. Can be a wee bit exposed though. All in all it was a great holiday both in terms of hotel accommodation and holiday location. Felt totally chilled by the time we came home.
