This place was amazing! We had a large room with a gorgeous view, comfortable beds and spacious bathroom that had a jetted tub along with the shower. There were a good variety of foods for breakfast. It's close to the main square and within walking distance of all the sights. The least expensive place we stayed in Italy but one of the nicest!

We liked this hotel a lot. My wife and I, in our early 60’s and on a four month trip through Europe, found these accommodations beyond our expectations, given the name of the hotel (Deluxe Hostel). This is a regular, modern hotel with regular, modern hotel rooms. We understand from a friend who lives in Sorrento that the name was adapted due to zoning negotiations.

The room we had was large, even by American upscale chain hotel standards. It had a large bathroom with tub and shower. No miniature European shower stall. We had no problem with the room at all.

The staff was uniformly very personable, responsive and helpful. For example, they recommended two restaurants, both of which proved very good, and had a problem with our room door fixed within an hour.

The breakfast buffet was large and substantial. It used push button coffee machines that let you select your own particular type of coffee, e..g. cappuccino, latte etc. ). We hadn't seen these before but like them. :-)

The location was central. We walked easily to most locations within the town. The train station, with bus connections to Positano and Almalfi and train connections to Napoli and Pompei, was a level, 10-15 minute walk.

Our one quibble is that wifi was available just in the (very large) lobby, not in the room, and tended to become very slow at the end of the day, Regularly, between 5 and 10 people, returning from a day of sightseeing, would park themselves in the lobby with their various wifi-enabled devices.

We would suggest that the hotel recognize that strong, in-room wifi is a real competitive advantage in Europe as many hotels in the price segment still have not adapted it. To go to the extent the Ulisse has to offer very good to superior accommodations in most other areas and not address this wifi limitation seems to us missing a true competitive opportunity for relatively little money.

Overall, however, we liked this property very much and would stay there again. We rate it as a 4 rather than a 5 based strictly on the limited wifi availability.

We stayed at Ulisse Deluxe Hostel in April 2012 and were wonderfully surprised. Ulisse is NOT a hostel, as most of us think of that term. Ulisse is a modern, convenient and clean hotel with really comfortable beds and full-size showers (not that easy to find in Italy at budget rates). The breakfast was plentiful and the staff, especially Chiara, were incredible. It is a terrific bargain and we highly recommend it.

We had a lovely stay, but it was funny that you have to pay for the pool.

Out of 8 hotels on this trip, this was the jewel in the crown! And very unexpected....

So then, it wasn't the cheapest of this tour (a hotel on Ronda, Spain, got that award at 21 euro) but at 60 euro (low season, march) it was the best hotel of the trip (despite some others costing a lot more).

The first thing to say is that "hostel" is not a word that would come to mind when you see this place. The reception is huge, the lounge (with piano) is huge, and indeed our bedroom was huge.

But it's not just that it's big. The room services are like a 4 star hotel (electronic control of door, lights, blah blah blah). When you look at the map, the location may seem a bit far from the centre (it's walkable from the station without too much luggage, maybe 15-20 mins,) but to get to the (west end) of the main street its only 5 mins walk. And lots of restaurants nearby.

A tip for foodies if you are visiting Sorrento. At the other end of town (a 30 min walk, past the station the other way, ie east) is a great little restaurant. Called Il Ritrivo (or "Take Away Il Ritrivo" on trip advisor, but dont be put off by the take away bit). They do have eat in, and the chef really does know what he is doing. Seriously good, and so exceptional value. Will surely be in all the travel books when they catch up. Good wine at excellent prices too.

Back to the hotel though, the point in case. Absolutely first class! For sure you will pay more in high season, but I think its still good value in the 100-150 euro range. In low season, it is exceptional value!! Only at €150 would I just start to hesitate, and at €200 maybe I would be tempted to look elsewhere.

In summary, very highly recommended. Good location. Great hotel. I could not speak more highly of our time there.

Room Tip: get a room near the lobby, can just about pick up the free lobby wifi on the sofa outside the room.
