We just left dinner. The restaurants by our airbnb were complet for the night and we remembered seeing the sign earlier that day. I was struck by the promise of a new approach to cuisine- which after 3 days of traditional rich, Italian food I needed a bit of a variation. We walked up the street- pure magic! A restaurant built into a hundreds (notice the s) years old building with tables in front. Terra-cotta pots with rambling Tuscan plants and a streetlight over the square. The staff, headed by an older chef- talked with the patrons. A little kid explored around the restaurant- watching them cook. And the food- it started with an appetizer platter which was sophisticated and expertly prepared including an outstanding grilled prawn and a sort of potato cheesecake mini tarte...wow. The next course was perfect pasta seasoned just perfectly. We split the steak with arugula and fresh tomatoes- simple and divine. The dessert, a ricotta tarte on a ladyfinger crust with fresh pears on top- was amazing. They gave us free homemade lemoncello and meloncello- wow!!! A magic night at the authentic restaurant you hope to find
