One of the nicer hotels I stayed in during my travels, the staff were helpful but I do believe I booked a room with a sea view, which we did not get rather a large "French" door overlooking a small (10ft) square with restaurant seating. The breakfast was pleasant enough. About 70 steps to the hotel but it's quite easy to find as Amalfi is quite small in itself. You cannot get WiFi in the rooms and therefore have to resort to sitting on the terrace or in the breakfast room to get a signal. Our towels and cups were also taken an not replaced so after a day out in Sorrento we had to chase that up when we got back. Ok for the price though, one of the cheaper places to stay in Amalfi.

Room Tip: Book the cheapest room because I don't believe you'll get the superiour twins even if you bo...

Nice B and B, nice family atmosphere. I read previous reviews so I was prepared for all 76 steps to the inn, the church bells etc. If you have mobility issues this isn't the place for you (actually the whole town of Amalfi for that matter)
We stayed in the Gisulfo II room which had a king bed, private terrace, small refrigerator and air conditioning. Bed was comfortable and room was clean. Breakfast was straight forward, bread, fruit, meats and cheeses and coffee.
Adreas at the front desk was helpful to answer all our questions and provide suggestions for places to eat. They prefer you pay in cash if possible.

It's easy to understand why this B&B was awarded the 2009 TripAdvisor Traveller's Choice award. Don't let the term "B&B" put you off - this is a quality hotel by many countries' standards.

Tip: When you arrive, do not cart your luggage up the stairs to the hotel! If you are not travelling alone, one person should remain with the luggage in the main square (preferably enjoying a coffee, gelato or beer) while the other person goes up to the B&B reception. It's easy to find - walk up the main street and look carefully for signs to the B&B, on your left. Amalfi has a hotelier association which provides free luggage transportation to any hotel in Amalfi - including Residenza del Duca. Go up (with your passports), check in, and tell them where you are waiting. Then go back down and wait for the golf buggy to arrive for your luggage! You and your companion can then walk up the 5 flights of stairs at your leisure. Same applies to the trip down.

Breakfast is plentiful and delicious, the owners are charming and kind, the rooms are spotless and beautiful - and the cleaning lady paid so much attention to our room that when she saw we had left an empty wine bottle in the bin one night, she left wine glasses in our room the next afternoon!! Incredible attention to detail at this hotel.

We were luckily upgraded to the Maria d'Aragona room which is much bigger than it looks on the hotel website. It actually has a reasonably sized terrace with two chairs where you can sit and enjoy the sunset. I would recommend this room to anyone toying between the standard and the superior rooms - well worth the extra 20 euros or so per night.

To get to Amalfi, we recommend taking public transport and especially the ferry (not the bus, which can be scary). We took the train from Rome to Salerno. Once you get off at Salerno station, walk 200 m to the ferry wharf. You can buy your ferry ticket at the booth next to the ferry (it's very obvious). The ferry from Salerno to Amalfi takes about 40 minutes and cost 7 euros per person. Spectacular views of the coast along the way. When you arrive in Amalfi, walk 100 m to the main square and then follow instructions above for a stress-free, easy check in.

We stayed for two nights at the Residenza del Duca, which was the highlight of our stay in Amalfi. We did a lot of relaxing here, and enjoyed our little balcony that overlooked the town. The breakfast was terrific, with delicious juice and cakes, along with meats and cheese as well. Andrea had some nice recommendations for dinner and gelato as well.

This is a 6 room b&b that feels more like a tiny hotel in that there is always someone at the front desk, a cleaning crew, and private standard rooms that don't make you feel like you are staying in grandma's house. The write ups in Rick steve's and lonely planet were spot on. We arrived by bus from Sorrento and stayed 3 nights which was lucky because there was a bus strike for the duration of our stay. We hitched a ride to Salerno to catch our train to Sicily with a kiwi couple that we met on the informative free walking tour of amalfi (meets Wednesdays at 530 at the museum).

Breakfast was the best in our Amalfi coast / Sicily trip. It was a good continental served on the beautiful sun deck. You got as many wonderful cappuccinos as you could hold, tasty fresh fruit, and then the typical croissants, toast, yogurt, cereal, salami and cheese. You woke up for this! Breakfast was intimate so we met all the other guests easily and felt like family by the end of our stay.

We stayed in a superior room and paid 100 euro with cash. Credit would have been 10 euro more. This room had a partial view of the water, no deck, but a nice rail balcony and even a cool sunshade you could lower to provide more cover. There was a fridge and free wifi (if you ask for the password). The bathroom was spotless with a jaccuzzi shower (never seen one of those!)

The location was a 3 minute walk from the bus / ferry station, but up about 80 steps. If you call them, they will come get your bags. The room faced plaza del dogi which we called the plaza of the screaming kids but it rolled up at night. Don't miss the view of amalfi valley from the roof. It was unbelievable, especially at night.

Duca's home made limoncello isn't as strong as il molino's but it is very tasty. At 10 euro a bottle it's a bit expensive but it's not watered down like the crap in town. And it's a fantastic experience. But order it ahead of time as mama has to make it!

Amalfi isn't quite as cleaned up as taormina, but is still nicer to wander around. Il molino is a fantastic restaurant just outside the tourist center up the valley just before the paper mill museum (see separate review.) We ate there 3 nights. We recommended it so much that by our third night 10 others showed up and we had to wait for a table! The red bus goes up to ravello which offers an amazingly beautiful  2 hour adventure walk back down to amalfi. Don't miss the tour and the water.
