The basiliani was a unique hotel. The rooms were spacious (I was surprised to see that we had a loft in our room with two extra beds!). It is a short walk to the hotel on a rocky surface, I suggest a back pack or light duffel. The maps the hotel provided via e-mail were fantastic. The breakfast was plentiful with lots of fresh fruit. There are patio chairs outside each room a good place to sit and read and lookout at the park across the ravine. I would stay here again.

We stayed at this hotel in February and it was great. The rooms were very clean, the fastest wifi I've seen, the location was amazing, and the breakfast in the morning was great. Overall we had a great time in Matera and this hotel was great.

Very unique experience. The cave room has modern, minimalist design but is large and quite comfortable.
There is a bit of humidity, but running the dehumidifier during the day was enough to make things comfortable when we were home in the evenings.
Great location--- easy, free parking approx 500 m away. The Sassi are an amazing, almost other worldly site. Worth the trip!

This is a lovely hotel in a unique site. Our room was very spacious, bright, clean and comfortable. It was not in the cave like some others are and we had no problem with
humidity. The location in the Sasso Caveoso, facing the Gravina, is fantastic and we had a
nice view even from our bed! Wi-fi is available and in the lobby there is a computer for the guests. Breakfast is adequate. The staff were very, very, very nice and
helpful. Very good value for money.

The rooms are built into the cave - very atmospheric and romantic. Also huge! My husband and I were given a room with an upstairs lodge and 2 separate bathrooms. Very comfortable bed and funky amenities. The only negative is that, due to being built into the cave, it is a little damp so you need to have the heating on or wear a sweater. The staff were very friendly, meeting us in town to escort us to the hotel, very patient with our questions and even parked our car for us as they told us we would probably be fined for leaving it where we had. Breakfast was simple yet tasty and the staff treated us like old friends without crossing the professional boundary. I do not hesitate in recommending this hotel. Well-worth the price!!
