A fairly unique round tower block located just to the east of the heart of Old Town Benidorm. The apartments themselves are fairly run down, worn out, sad and depressing. And not even cheap to rent.

The block consists of some commercial offices and over 120 apartments. Studios, 1 bed and 2 bed. Some are in private hands and some are rented. The building is located very conveniently, with a good mini supermarket and restaurant located on the buildings concours.

Administration for the rented apartments is done from the Hotel Agua Azur on the opposite side of the Via Emilio Ortuño. You collect and drop off your keys there. It has 24 hour reception so no matter what time you wish to collect your keys, they are open.

The main reception area is usually unmanned at the San Jamie. The reception area is all mirrors and a period 1970s ceiling. Unusually the two lifts are back to back with each other. Possibly due to the unique shape of the building. There is a staircase, and also an exterior emergency staircase to all floors. There is a caretaker around cleaning the floors and tidying the buildings public areas.

On entering our rented Studio room we where met with a pungent smell of stale tobacco. Despite booking a non smoking room, we where given a smoking room. Air conditioning, which was listed when we booked, was non existent. The furniture was very basic, and in generally pretty poor condition. The beds very un-comfy and worn out. The sofa tatty and positioned against a loose fitting electrical socket with wiring exposed. The balcony was nice (as the apartment was listed without one) but only had one chair. The room had been cleaned, but not very well. A bundle of dust and someone else's hair blew out from underneath the hallway table. And don’t put your shoes under the beds, they will come out dirty. A TV set is provided.

The kitchenette was grubby and near useless. The 2 ring hob worked ok, the fridge, missing its handle worked. Only one cup, and several dirty glasses, including a single wine glass that had been used at one point as an ash tray. One of the kitchen cupboards was falling apart, and a damaged worktop, which is simply unhygienic. A few dirty greasy mismatched plates, random similarly greasy cutlery, odd ball pans, NO kettle or toaster. A new gas boiler had been fitted outside on the balcony with pipes running across the room, and a load of holes and pipes where the original boiler had once been fitted inside. It just looked sad, and needed a proper cleaning.

The bathroom was OK. Toilet (one tenth of a toilet roll provided), hand basin (no plug provided), bath with shower over it, and a bidet. It wasn’t too bad apart from the water which leaks badly from the apartment above. So someone else's dirty water was dripping on to you. A washing machine is also fitted in here.

Noise levels where very high. Even at night. And with no air con there is no choice but to leave the windows and balcony doors open.

The external pool was fine. Clean and tidy.

It’s the 21st century. The apartment we rented is in a fairly shocking condition. It desperately needs a deep clean, new beds, sofa, chairs, kitchen and air-con. Plus remedial work to the dripping ceiling in the bathroom. As it stands, it is sub even the most basic of standards.

Summary. Find somewhere else to stay.

Room Tip: Don't bother. Pay a little more for something that won't ruin your holiday.

Was a little concerned when booking San Jaimie because of the other or reviews. I did try to find out more but alpharooms were worse than useless. They were acting as agents and knew nothing of what they were selling.

However, the room while basic was fine. We stayed in a 2 bed on the 5th floor. The furniture is crap and very shabby. But it was the cheapest place we could find.

Some of the issues that need resolving are:
1. Be clear where the keys are picked up from. There is nothing online about this and no signs in the reception.
2. Have a file that details how things work. As there is no reception, there is no one to ask. We had to muggle through.
3. Indicate that the room will not be cleaned.
4. Provide more bin liners.
5. Provide more toilet rolls.
6. Provide cleaning materials so we can keep the rooms clean.

On the positive:
1. Limitless hot water.
2. Beds are fine.
3. Good fridge freezer
4. Washing machine.
5. Cooker and microwave.

So don't book this apartment is you are expecting high standards and quality; you will be disappointed. However, if you just want something basic, it does the job.

Stayed here from 3rd June to the 10th, only booked a studio but was given a 2 bedroom apartment, had everything that was needed, full kitchen facilities with full size cooker and fridge freezer. Very large apartment with 2 balconies and washing machine. We didnt stay in the apartment much so only really used it to shower and sleep in, but all worked fine, beds where comfy and bedding was clean and more left in wardrobe to change has you wished. The pool area was lovely and clean and the pool didnt get busy so it was great for sunbathing and having a dip to cool off. The Aqua Azul hotel was great , just over the road to collect keys, quick check in on arrival, took all of 5mins, and if we needed anything the staff was great, they would even order us taxis on a night to get us to the strip! I would definatley stay again, 250e for a week great value! 5 mins walk into the heart of the old town, great for the nights we was too tired to go all the way to the strip. Location brilliant, 5 mins walk to Levante beach, handy little supermarket and restaurant attached. Will return!

Room Tip: Would be quieter the higher floor but never bothered us.
