My first time in Benidorm.
Good location in the lively part of Benidorm. Bars in every direction out of the hotel including all the places that have several acts on every night. Drinks are generally much cheaper than the UK although pricier in places where there is entertainment on, which is to be expected. Downside of this is you must expect some noise at night from the surrounding bars. That said I didn't find it too bad with the doors fully closed and with earplugs in I got a decent sleep. Would have been a problem if had to sleep with doors open for the cool and no earplugs, so go prepared! There is a comedy club in the basement of the hotel with several cabaret and tribute acts on each night with no entry fee.
Was about a 5 or 6 minute walk to the lovely promenade. Beach very good, excellent sand and cleaned every night. Sunbeds 4 Euros a pop. About a 15 or 20 minute walk to the old town, also nice and a lot more relaxed and laid back with plenty of bars and also some genuine Spanish tapas places. Whilst there is a lot of brits here and other nationalities there remains a lot of Spanish people too, either on holiday or who live here. The place caters for the young but also the old with a preponderence of those scooter things going up and down the prom. Whilst some were used for the genuinely disabled/infirm/frail etc a lot also seem to be hired by the lazy, the fat and in some cases hired 'for a laugh'. Guess that's Benidorm for you!
Pool in the hotel is indoors in the cooler months and in the warmer months the roof is retracted to make outdoors. Plenty of sunbeds although the cheap nasty ones that don't adjust at all. There were some upright chairs that could be reclined which I found preferable.
Only three lifts which get very popular at meal times etc so is often better just to walk. And don't hang about as the doors close quick!
Room was very clean and adequate for the price. Good shower and spacious bathroom. Good spacious balcony. Beds ok. TV with a few English channels. Plenty of cupboard space and hangers etc. No main light in the bedroom just various side lights so if you really want to see yourself in the mirror was better to use the bathroom which was very well lit.
The food was just about passable but no great shakes. Normal breakfast fayre but with greasy and fatty bacon and fried eggs that were almost always overcooked. Good toast machines. Can't comment on lunch. Dinner had a choice of generally two meat dishes, one fish dish and then pizza and pasta as extras. I thought the main courses were quite good overall. The mash was gloopy but other potato items good. Veg was a bit hit and miss. A daily changing soup was ok. Salad bar pretty good. A range of changing desserts weren't too bad. Bit of minor queuing at times but never any great delay. Service and clearing of tables was quick and efficient.
Another tip is that there are many places offering excellent rates of exchange, better than those available in the UK, and commission free. Ok it's not mega bucks by any means but if you don't get chance to take the Euro's with you you will have no trouble getting a good rate in the town.
Overall then not a bad place for the price paid which I think was about £110 per person for 4 nights half board including the airport transfers. This was in April 2012 and some other months will no doubt be pricier. I would definately return to Benidorm as I'd like to get out and see the surrounding area more. I wouldn't necessarily rush back to this hotel but only because there are so many other places to try and you could certainly do a lot worse I am sure.
