We arrived at 9.30, opening time and had the museum to ourselves for an hour and a half. This lovely property belonged to a family who bequeathed it to the state earlier in the century. It is crammed with Art, ceramics, furniture etc and was our top cultural experience of Madrid!

I have red good reviews of the place and I decided to visit it. It is very easy to access the museum by foot from the center of the city. The only regret I have is that I was already very very tired, after visiting in the morning the Royal Palace and Thiesen. Cerrablo is a splendid museum, bigger than I thought, "overcrowded" with marvelous objects, a lot of objects...and with resplendent rooms. There are also some nice paintings, but what I liked the most was the collection of decorative or every day used objects (from dishes, to vases), pictures showing an old time life, clocks...there is one in the Gala Room..very, very special!. They even have some armours! And even more, the staff is very friendly and helpful, trying to orientate you throughout the museum`s rooms. Thinking back, I loved some rooms more than others but overall...please, don`t miss this corner of charm!

Wonderful and eclectic art collection, gathered by the XVII Marquis of Cerralbo in his small urban palace, and left to the city of Madrid after his death.
Not so much for the paintings ( only a few remarkable ones ) but for the Decorative arts it holds( some truly unique pieces of Meissen, and the most amazing Murano glass chandelier that you'd ever see outside of Venice! ), indeed make the Cerralbo worth a visit.

The Cerralbo offers a more personal experience which I found to be very interesting. I most enjoyed the collections of items such as the coins in the library and interesting pieces of furniture (antler chairs). There are other collections that some people may like such as armor and swords. Overall, the house and its contents are very well maintained although it seems there could be some care given to the garden that is visible from the interior. It feels like you are visiting someone's house since most areas aren't roped off and I think it is one of my favorite museums. I did not notice whether there was an elevator but the stairs were not very onerous. Entry was 3 euro but going after certain hours entry is free.

It was fascinating to enter the townhouse of the Cerralbos - interesting to get an idea how they lived and that rich people don't always have good taste!!! Very over-the-top decoration. I would have loved a small installation showing the living conditions of the Cerralbo's tenants or servants to put the social situation in context.
