“A bit old, a bit tired, great location”
Reviewed 17 April 2012 via mobile

Its ok - clean, friendly, good breakfast, brilliant location

But it's not great - terrible Internet and basically useless WIFI, rooms very small and strangely shaped, and it's just a bit old and tired

Stayed April 2012

... but that would be the main attraction of the hotel. We had a "premium" room with a view into the tiny, inner courtyard, very quiet - most of the time, no problem to find sleep and to sleep long. The room looks much spacier on the hotel's web-site. If you come as tourist, do not pay extra for the premium class - it's not worth it.

We travelled to Madrid in mid-march, three adults in two rooms for four nights. We booked the hotel through priceline, name your own price. We got a decent deal, so overall the value we got was reasonable. Having said that, there were a couple of things we disliked and a few that we liked. The location is quite central. It is close to all three museums (Prado, Thyssen and Reina Sofia), and walking distance from the Plaza Mayor, Puerta Del Sol, Gran Via, The royal Palace. The metro station is a short walk away. But, a central location applies to almost any hotel in the Sol area. The neighborhood, on the other hand, is not as nice as in the Gran Via. I was Ok with it, but it is much nicer to get out of the hotel in the morning to the view of the Metropolis building, than it is to the bustle of Calle De Atocha.
The checkin process was rather slow. We got in at 11pm and there were several people in front of us. On a few occasions during our stay, we had to wait a long time for the receptionists. It seems that the desk is understaffed quite frequently. The hotel does not have wi-fi in the lobby (poor reception). Wi-fi gets stronger as you walk to the back end of the hotel, where the rooms are. If your room is around that area, you could get wi-fi in the room, although the reception may be choppy. In room 219, I had good reception but your mileage may vary. At this day and age, I would expect in-room wi-fi. My guess is that in higher floors, reception will be lousy. There is a wired connection in the room, which was OK but we had to get a cable from the front desk.
My room was actually good. The best part was the bathroom, which was quite spacious and recently renovated. One issue is that there were a few exposed nails in the woodwork and I actually stepped on one in the middle of the night. Not fun and this should not happen. Towels were old and thin. My friends stayed in 121 on the first floor. They had a worse experience, with the street noise often becoming quite loud, especially on weekends. Try to avoid the first floor.
Breakfast was decent but not worth it. We had it only once, as we preferred to pay to one of the local breakfast spots in the neighborhood.

Room Tip: For wi-fi try lower floors, but make sure not the first floor because of street noise.

You can reach everywhere in Madrid and close towns with Atocha Train Station where is near the Tryp Atocha Hotel . By walking about 5 minutes from the hotel. A bad experience was heard from my tour mate who stayed a lower floor of the hotel , suddenly city youngs started to street party , so noisy ! She did not sleep !

Breakfast was really good . Also hotel room was cleaned but so small , but i dont know other rooms ! We stayed 4 nights but actually we liked location of the hotel .

I can advice the hotel if you dont look for a large room , close to everywhere ;)

Room Tip: Lower floors are so noisy at midnight !

This hotel has something that I never found in other hotels, a city hotel with big bedrooms for families. If you have family go this hotel that you never will be put it on a small bedroom. The breakfeast it is ok. The city center its is at 10 minutes walking.
