Our first visit to Madrid and this hotel which is in the centre of the 'old town' everything is within walking distance, fabulous shops, stunning architecture, a must see for all.

Room Tip: breakfast very good, gin and tonic on the terrace are very large !!!!

This hotel is just what we were looking for. Centrally located. Safe. Clean and comfortable. Located right next door to the Monasterio de las Descalzas Reales. Right across the street from the Chagall exhibit. We stayed in a 16th century palace. We, also, had an interior room looking into the courtyard below, but it had a great air conditioning system and was very comfortable. The bathroom is small but very well designed and really functional. I am a cosmetics junkie and I had plenty of room for everything with a little left over for my husband. The shower was great and we had a very comfortable bed. The bar outside was really fun and Barbara is the best waitress. Let me put it this way, our friends wanted to stay at the Ritz at three times the price and they were very happy that I talked them into the Palacio.

Room Tip: Our interior room was great!

Hotel Intur Palacio San Martin is e very convenient hotel in the centrum of Madrid if you wish to visit the art museums and the royal castle, Puerto de Sol and Placa Mayor on foot. We had a room with a view to the inner courtyard as we asked for a quiet room. That turned out to be a little too stuffy getting no fresh air when we opened the windows – but it was our mistake – the next time I will ask for a room facing the cloister on the small palace in front of the hotel.
The hotel itself is in a very old building – we had a good room that needed a little more lights in my opinion, a quiet and efficient elevator and very good firm beds. Bathroom was also to our satisfaction and the staff very efficient. Breakfast good with a lot of choices and the little bar has a very good red wine by the glass.
We brought the Michelin guide for restaurants but that was not necessary as there are many good places just around the corner – a tapas and wine place with very good inexpensive food and wine in the nearby street.
We paid 35 euros for the taxa from Barajas airport – not bad and will look forward to go back to Palacio San Martin. The first taxi driver took us to hotel Charmartin – and was rather rude when we explained the difference – so remember the phrase Intur when naming the hotel. The Chagall exhibit free of charge opposite the hotel is worth visiting but do so in the morning as there are long lines in the afternoon. We missed the cloister – if you want to go make an arrangement at the cloister in the morning and return at the arranged time.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the plaza

right in the heart of the city but in a quiet plaza. The rooms are very good and it's not expensive. We didn´t have breakfast at the hotel, though, so I don't know if the food's good.

We stayed at this really excellent hotel in Madrid from 3/19 - 3/26/2012. I have nothing but excellent comments to make about it. Madrid (in the late evenings and especially on a weekend) is packed with tourists and Madrilenos walking around, meeting and greeting and in many cases, partying. This hotel was located close enough to Puerta del Sol and the Gran via for convenience purposes but far enough away from them so that one could get a good, solid night sleep while less fortunate travellers in other hotels in other areas on the Gran Via were more than likely kept awake by the noise. This hotel DID NOT HAVE A NOISE PROBLEM. Our room (which was lovely) looked out over the front of the hotel on the 4th floor (by request which they were kind enough to follow through on when we booked it). We looked down on the little plaza in front of the hotel. The Convent was next door and aside from the ringing of the bells (usually at 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.) there was virtually no noise. I believe the inner doors (off of the little balcony of our room) were soundproofed which helped eliminate most noise. The double bed was comfortable and we loved the room.
T.V. channels (English) were limited but who goes to Spain to sit in and watch t.v.?
The buffet breakfast (which was included in the price) was EXCELLENT. They had a huge variety of food and you also could order directly through the waitress hot dishes including omelettes, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages. They even had cava at breakfast in a bucket if you wanted it.
The staff (both a reception and in the buffet area) went out of their way to help. In the reception area Antonio, Alberto and Sandra really went way beyond in their patience in helping me to arrange side trips and print boarding passes.
The buffet staff were very good and I specifically would mention Maria Jose and one other young lady who worked very hard to serve breakfast 5 of the 7 mornings we were there but I did not get her name.
All in all if you want an EXCELLENT hotel, in a really good location that is 99% free of noise I would recommend this hotel wholeheartedly.
