Went to visit our son in Madrid and we stayed at this lovely hotel. The Emperador is located on Gran Via.The hotel is lovely when we arrived at check in the receptionist informed us we had been upgraded to a junior suite at no extra cost. The suite was lovely ,breakfast is really good so much choice would definitely go again.

Room tip: Corner junior suites are excellent

Located right in the middle of La Gran Via, with numerous bares de tapas all around, a few minutes from mayor attractions. Rooms are small and the Hotel is kind of old and a little smelly. Even so, good experience!

Room tip: Nice views from the room with terrace in the top floor.

The main reason we chose this hotel was it's excellant location on the Gran Via within walking distance of all the major tourist attractions in downtown Madrid. There are also many nice restaurants located near this hotel. The hotel front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. We loved the roof top bar and went there most evenings for a nightcap drink. That is because we really enjoyed the service and conversations provided by the two staff members who worked there, Ismael and Andrea. We used the breakfast buffet one morning. In our view it was average quality and did not offer much variety or choices for the price. Our room on the 5th floor was clean, well decorated and had all the necessary amenities. However, two small complaints. The room was quite warm even with the heat turned off. We would cool down the room by opening the window. There was also a fair amount of noise during the day due to ongoing renovation construction within the hotel. All in all, we had a pleasant stay and I would definately recommend this hotel to those who are looking for a central location in the downtown area.

Well located on the Gran Via and bang next door to a Metro. Impressive fin de siècle façade with a smart entrance hall. the rooms are of reasonable size, and ours was a club room so we had access (used only once!) to a rather shabby and depressing club room where we could bag a few nibbles and the odd drink. Our room had adequate storage space, a coffee machine and useful stuff like robes and slippers but it was a bit noisy due to the fact the hotel was changing their windows so lots of tapping and banging. No air con as one reviewer noted. Smallish bathroom with a shower over the bath - no slip mat and no tissues. No restaurant but a splendid roof top bar and pool and a lobby bar which provided a snack menu.
