This hotel was inexpensive, 10 minutes from the subway and right next to a bus stop. Like many European hotels, it wasn't the largest room, but it was certainly a good value for the money!

We stayed at Hotel Praga in April, 2012 for two days while on a Cosmo tour. Found the hotel to be very clean. Rooms were spacious. Good AC and the windows opened for fresh air and with little traffic noise as we were on the 6th floor. We found the staff to be both polite and helpful (albeit, they are very formal and no one seems to smile...might be a spanish culture thing.) The bathroom was of good size and VERY clean. The beds were of good quality and comfortable. Breakfasts (2) were generous and excellent, there was something for everyone. The tour dinner was of good quality, however it was not from the normal hotel menu. The Hotel is what one would expect for a tour hotel. To accomodate tour buses the location is a bit far out, however City bus-23 stops out front. We took a taxi to the Prado for about $15 do to Health and time constraints. The Praga is located in a nice, safe, inexpensive neighborhood with lots of shops and good tapas bars. Great bakery next door. We recommend The Hotel Prada.

Room Tip: Try to get a room in the rear of the hotel or on a high floor to avoid noise when the windows are open.

I wasn't sure what to expect from the hotel given its price (~40 GBP per night for a double room, exc breakfast) but the other TA reviews suggested it was worth a go. I visited with my parents and we were very pleased with our choice. A little way out of the centre the bus stop is directly outside the hotel, and is only ~15 mins drive to Plaza Mayor. The rooms were comfortable and clean, and the staff at the front desk happy to help and advise e.g. places to go. There is also a taxi rank outside, and Barajas airport was about a 20 minute drive. You can also get around by metro, but it's not quite as convenient, being about 10 minute walk to the closest stop.
Overall really excellent value for money.

Room Tip: Request a non-smoking room - on the 8th floor there were ashtrays and some of the rooms smelled of smoke.

Travelling the first time to a city without knowing where to book can be perplexing but this hotel looked somewhat appealing. It is very far from the centre of it all though close enough to the greatest flea market happening in Madrid ... The Rastro. The room was fine, nothing to write home about and we felt it did not deserve a four star category. We never tried the hotel's restaurant since the prices were exorbitant. There are plenty of small eateries in the same street as the hotel's with very friendly people, great food and not heavy on the pocket.

Room Tip: If you really want to explore Madrid, pay more and go for the centre.
