It was raining the day we arrived at the flat lugging 5 heavy suitcases and Mary and Margin were there to greet us with a grand smile and helping hand. Once we navigated the stairs, (beautiful old dark solid wood steps we would not wanted to have missed), we walked into a naturally well-lit cozy apartment with a kitchen outfitted with jam, bread, butter, juice, milk, chocolates, coffee, tea, sugar, biscuits. And of course the infamous bottle of Spanish wine! Comfort foods to satisfy our basic needs until we could recover from our jet-lag and get some Spanish words under our belt, the stocked kitchen was appreciated immensely.
The couple had lived in this flat for twelve years and it had the feel of a home that was loved and appreciated. Tree-lined avenues and upscale stores with bustling consumers were behind us while expansive spacious gardens alive with pine-fragrant trees cradled us on two sides. For an experience of quaint Spain, have lunch at JJ's across the street where they leave the bottle of wine on the table for you to help yourself. Everything was within walking distance. Great experience. Loved the hospitality. Make sure to invite Mary up for conversation and wine. She's a beautiful person worth getting to know. Full service, we left a pair of shoes under the bed and Mary graciously mailed them to us the next day. We will stay here again.
