“Superbly located and well equipped apartment.”
Reviewed 3 July 2017 for a stay in June 2017

My wife and I, accompanied by our 20 year old daughter, stayed in one of the first floor apartments for six nights at the end of June 2017. Cost was 863€ inc VAT and cleaning charge.
Communication with the agent / owner was excellent from before booking, and he answered all of my queries. We were able to arrange to hire a two person apartment and pay 90€ extra to allow our daughter to use the sofa bed.
Directions to the venue were easy to follow and we were welcomed and shown local places to eat and shop when we arrived.
*** TIP*** Get yourself a five - day pass for the Metro and ride the buses and Metro trains right from the airport for just 33€! It's easy to get about and you can download simple to follow Metro maps onto your phone. The route by Metro train to the apartment involves 3 air conditioned trains, but moving between them with suitcases is simple as there are elevators on every station. Or a taxi will cost about 35€ (for one trip, so the Metro pass is much better value).
The location is excellent, with only a 30 metre walk to local shops and one of Barcelona's marvellous beaches. La Rambla and the city are a ½ hour walk or much shorter bus or Metro ride away. Everything you could possibly need is within easy reach (even tea bags) and the location is perfect for a combination of beach and city. The water is warm and very clear and the sandy beach is cleaned daily. There are many small convenience stores within 3 minutes' walk, or a Spar, indoor fresh market, bank, three bakeries and a small supermarket within 5 minutes' walk. A cheap evening meal will cost you about 10€ and a more expensive one (near to the W hotel) will cost you about 20€. You'd need to stay for a month in order to try every restaurant and take away with 5 minutes' walk! There are plenty of places locally that will hire out bicycles, electric scooters or motor scooters.
***TIP*** Make sure that you keep a close eye on your belongings! I'm a retired police officer and constantly lecture my family about safety, but my daughter had her bag containing an iPhone 6, purse and some expensive makeup stolen on our last night there. The police were very helpful and even waited in numbers on the street as we tracked the phone, but when I rang it for them the thief switched it off straight away, so an insurance claim has had to be made.
The apartment itself is well equipped with easy to clean stainless steel worktop, oven, two ringed electric halogen hob and extractor, a refrigerator (complete with bottle of cava), flat screen TV (but with only German or Spanish channels) and very good air conditioning. The bedroom is separated from the kitchen / living room by a sliding door and another sliding door leads from the bedroom to the bathroom, a windowless room with WC, washbasin and very powerful shower (with two heads). The bathroom was well stocked with a hair dryer, towels, toilet rolls and hand soap. Entry to the apartment block and to the individual apartments is by electronic code, so there are no keys to worry about. There is a lift big enough for two people or one person plus a big suitcase.
***TIP*** get a room on the top floor, as other guests entering or leaving the building can be noisy! The Barcelona street cleaning also takes place at about 3 in the morning, so the higher up you are the better.

The only criticisms I could make were:
1) The WiFi was very unreliable and kept dropping out, despite the router being in a panel in the ceiling outside the entrance door;
2) There were only two very small pillows supplied, and my wife likes two pillows almost as large as an English county.
I also wish that Germans entering the building drunk and noisily would accede to requests made in German to be a little quieter. That said, the German lady in the apartment below ours actually asked me to tell her if her children were making too much noise, so it's about individuals not nationalities.
All said and done, I would recommend this accommodation without hesitation.

Dear Mark,
thank you for you extensive review, very much appreciated. Just wanted to add that we have now installed an access point for internet in each apartment. Now the Internet connection is fast and reliable within each apartment.
Best wishes and looking forward to welcoming you again next time

“Small apartment in good location”
Reviewed 11 October 2016 for a stay in September 2016

The last eight years, I've travelled to Barcelona with friends, with my partner and, the last three years, with kids. Each time, I've rented an apartment in Barceloneta, and have now gone through five different apartments (the previous ones not rented again either because they did not live up to our standards or, in two cases, because they were no longer available for rent). This was the first time we stayed in this apartment.

Positives:
- Correspondence with the owner was very swift and easy
- The location is great (providing you want to stay by the beach); you can walk to the beach barefoot
- There's an elevator, meaning you don't have to carry your stuff up those very narrow stairs that you often see in Barceloneta. This was particularly good for us as we travelled with two kids
- Accessing the apartment was super-easy; you're given a code in advance which you enter at code-locks byt the front door and the apartment door so you don't have to wait for someone to meet you
- The service offered is great. E.g. they offered some beach toys to our oldest son without us asking for it
- There was a complimentary bottle of cava in the fridge
- The apartment was VERY clean, including the bathroom

Downsides:
- The apartment is very small and compared to other similarly-sized apartments we've stayed in, this definitely felt smaller, probably due to the planning; the apartment is essentially a furnished corridor divided in kitchen/livingroom and bedroom with bathroom. They offered a baby cot but there was no obvious place to put it. Neither was it possible to put our luggage anywhere without it being in the way all the time.
- There's literally no shelves or any other place to put stuff, other than a very small wardrobe area.
- The balcony is too small to fit even one chair and it leaned considerably (probably to allow for drainage). Again, this was not in par with other places we're stayed - or they have not advertised it as a balcony.
- The WiFi was extremely shaky and the connection was poor to non-existent in the bedroom, but OK in the couch (where it was best). It dropped connection at least a few times per hour in the couch and once every few minutes in the kitchen and the bedroom, if there was any connection at all
- The washing machine was not in the apartment but on the rooftop terrace (outside!).

I'd recommend this apartment to a single traveller or a couple, staying for a few days. Despite the comparably high price, you get a very clean apartment in a good location. However, if you're travelling with one or two friends (rather than a partner), you'll find that the sofa bed does not cut it and if you're staying for more than a few days, you'll struggle to find room for your belongings. Despite the elevator, I'd advise against staying here with kids, unless you're a single adult with one kid and you're travelling very light.

Dear guest,
thanks for the feedback. I'd like to respond and underline that the apartment is designed and offered to max 2 people. We accepted your young kids upon request with no extra cost (free of charge) and provided also a baby cot free of charge. But obviously it is not perfect and not designed for a family of 4, that's why the maximum capacity is 2 people.
The apartment is a typical quart de casa of the Barceloneta, which is architectural heritage of Barcelona. Today the vast majority of the apartments in the Barceloneta are quarts de casa. . The size is about 25qm, which is ideal for 2 people.
Best wishes
Roland

“You opt to rent a Barcelona Beach Apartment - and that's what you get :)”

We had never been to Barcelona before and so we guessed that a beach apartment would be nice and close to the action... and it was all as advertised - a lovely apartment nice and close to the beach, harbour and the night life. The apartments were very clean, quiet and comfortable.
We were made to feel very welcome by Albiol, who was very passionate about the area and gave us some very useful local information.
We stayed at Apartment Nova Icària (2A,2nd floor).

“Great apartment, fantastic location”
Reviewed 20 June 2016 for a stay in June 2016

My partner and I stayed at this condo for 6 nights at the beginning of June 2016. The location can't be beat - a block off the beach, 10 minutes to Barri Gotic, 15 minutes to La Ramblas. The apartment is extremely clean, and well-appointed - it's essentially a studio apartment, but laid out really well, we never felt crowded. The bathroom was large, based on our experience with other apartments in Barcelona/Barceloneta, but beware that the lighting is quite poor (I had to do my make-up in the living room - not a deal breaker, but take note!). The bed was comfortable and the linens were great - the pillows were flimsy, but we made do. The building is safe and despite the proximity to the beach and restaurants, extremely quiet - we never had an issue with the noise. Booking and communication was smooth and efficient and I would definitely recommend...in fact, I can't wait to come back! Make sure you take advantage of the shared roof-top space...a wonderful place to relax with a bottle of wine after a day of exploring and before dinner.
