Found this place by coincidence! What to say...The weird decor to even more weirder owner!Place got the character tho!Not to expensive and with lovely lady singer.Well worth a visit as there is hardly anywhere places like that! You either like it or hate it!

This is supposed to be a traditional old-time Barcelona bar/café, but don't go here. The drinks are very expensive and the service is awful. The place is supposed to have character, but what it really is, is a dump. Just don't bother. There are so many fun things to do in Barcelona, don't waste your time here.

If you are looking for something truly charming then you have to visit Bar Pastis. Stepping inside the door is like stepping back in time. Fantastic relaxed atmosphere coupled with great music. Drinks are reasonable considering the history oozing from every crevice.
The barman has been described in previous reviews as grumpy...I beg to differ. While quite standoffish in the beginning, if you give him a chance he will regal you with anecdotes of mad nights out .
This bar has to be visited by those who appreciate and embrace the essence of what a good bar should be.

We had a jolly time at Bar Pastis. It was not yet busy so not crowded, though you can see it would not take many bodies to create a crowd in this tiny French-inspired bar. Yet live music goes on here, locals and tourists rub elbows here, and history is dripping from every pore of the establishment. Decades-old tchotchkes, seriously-patina'd paintings, old photos, old flyers, etc., etc. from floor to ceiling that have seen many years. This is an authentic experience, meaning not for everyone. If you like things sanitized, do yourself and them a favor and pass it by. It is its own creation with its own real, gritty and salty ways without a single nod to any sort of music or drinks or attitude that are currently fashionable. Perhaps the "old man" that people refer to is sometimes grouchy, but we enjoyed his company. Perhaps he does not appreciate people visiting for the sideshow-like purpose of seeing the "grumpy old man" they have heard so much about. We requested some Edith Piaf music and he was happy to oblige. We loved it here and will look forward to returning when we are in Barcelona again.

I first went to Bar Pastis back in the 80`s when I lived in Barcelona. You walked down the Ramblas, turned right at the sex shop, walked passed the transvestite prostitutes and down a dark narrow street to get there. Now after the gentrification of the whole area the sex shop and prostitutes have gone and between the Ramblas and the Pastis there is an Irish pub but behind the front door, the bar Pastis is still the same. Its been open 67 years and the lease is up sometime next year and they are unsure if it will stay open. This is a bar you have to visit as its totally unique. The walls have not been cleaned or dusted since the first day it opened and they are covered in old photos, paintings and writings. If you are looking for Macdonalds smiling service and cleanliness this is most definitely not the place for you. I dont often agree with the Yanks but an earlier review I read by an American who visited because his father had after the war captures something of the feel you must have for the place to appreciate it. Time machines dont exist but sat in Pastis with a glass of the homemade hooch, looking and listening you cant fail to be transported somewhere else.
