The location was good. It was clean. But for the price it was nothing special. Too cold to use the pool while we were there. Within walking distance of Palau de la Musica, which was important to us.

Just had a great weekend in Barcelona, staying in the Ciutat de Barcelona in the El Born district, which is in the Gothic quarter. The hotel is very well situated for walking to the marina, port, beaches, la Rambla, the cathedral and is just a few hundred yards from the Picasso museum, which was excellent and well worth a visit.
The hotel room itself was comfortable, spacious and spotlessly clean; many people have already raved about the showers and yes - they are fantastic - while we found the beds comfortable and not hard at all; it must be what you're used to and they're not woth moaning about. One unexpected perk was the fridge on each floor of the hotel that contains an unlimited supply of bottled water; this was great as you just help yourself and are never left thirsty or paying over 1 eure for a quick drink. The staff were welcoming and helpful and the breakfast we had, which was included in the hotel price for us, was simple, but tasty and plentiful; there are lots of small bars and cafes nearby that serve breakfast or 2 Supermarkets on the street where the hotel is located if you want to cater for yourself. The hotel does have a roof terrace with a small swimming pool, which was beautiful to sit on in the warm Spring sunshine and I can well believe it is an asset in the Summer; most of the time we were up there, we were alone.
Despite several reviewers feeling 'unsafe' in the area at night, when we returned to the hotel after a gig near the Aquarium, the streets were still busy although it was almost 2am. However, there are lots of tiny dark alleyways that lead of the main streets all around the hotel and we did make sure these were avoided after dark just to be on the safe side.
All in all the hotel was perfect for our needs and we would love to come back and visit Barcelona and the hotel again.

For a city hotel it is a good one. Specially the location is great: surrounded by bars, restaurants, shops and just a 10 minutes walk from Plaza Catalunya. The rooms are big (a luxory for a city hotel, where u usually can not move a lot in the rooms) but missing charm. No decoration in the rooms, no personality at all and seems receptionists are as plain as the hotel rooms. Pity, with just a bit more this hotel could be a wonderful place. Still it offers all you need when staying in a city as Barcelona. Nice detail, they offer free water.

I've stayed here several times over the last 5 years and really love Hotel Ciutat de Barcelona in el Born. The rooms are smart and simple, ask for a corner and get more windows, there's free chilled bottle water, the desk staff members are lovely and if you opt for the buffet breakfast you'll be well fed with excellent coffee.
Be aware that Carrer Princesa is mostly pedestrian and can be quite lively at weekends but that also means you're close to all sorts of bars, restaurants and museums. Enjoy it all!
Oh, there's a darling little swimming pool on the roof and super views to be had.
