There is a tremendous lot to like about this hotel. The location is just perfect for access to the Gaudi buildings, to the Rambla or to upscale shopping. It is not all that far from the charming pedestrian walkway town center. The food was utterly out of this world----not just the reknown Moo Restaurant, but also room service, particularly breakfast. While there was no separate concierge, that is because the front desk covers that role, and they cover it competently and quickly. In fact, service and staff interaction was superb throughout the hotel. The business center was fine. All of this was 5/6 star quality. On the other hand, the interior decorating and structure of the rooms was, in my view, horrible.
We had two rooms, one of which was a junior suite (according to the website, only 5 rooms in the whole hotel are larger). This junior suite had the following furniture: bed+2 night stands, desk/chair, couch/coffee table. That is it; no dresser and no chairs other than the desk chair. That is fine for a king bedroom, but ridiculous for a suite. While there was plenty of closet space, rather than using some of it for drawers or shelves with drawer spacing, the whole thing was either box space (as if they might decide to put 4 mini bars in there someday) or clothes hanging space. Finding enough room to stack one's non hanging clothes was not possible----in a suite.
The bathroom had many problems. The door was double weight and designed to close automatically, and it is more problematic than it might sound, particularly as the only trash can was in the bathroom. If you stepped into the bathroom for two seconds for a tissue or to throw away a piece of paper, it was 2 heavy door openings every time. This got to be a pain. There was a large window between the bed area and the bathroom, with two options: curtain up for visual review of the bathroom (which is okay as one option to be sure), or a sheer transparent curtain. Why on earth is the 2nd option visually equivalent to the first? There was only a small single Budget 6 sized bar of soap. Lots and lots of fancy conditioners, but essentially no soap for us plain folks. There were wash cloths, but only by the bidet on a knee level hanger, and I did get the message that these were not meant for my face or hands.
More: about a fifth of the total suite space was allocated to a totally unnecessary and useless hall. What poor design! The bed had this funny frame around it that extended aboiut a foot wider than the bed in all directions, which might be a good idea if one is spending weeks in bed, but was simply in the way for normal use.
Our daughter's king bedroom actually had almost the same amount of furniture without any of the weird features described above. She had a table and 2 chairs instead of the couch/coffee table. It was a much better home for the week than the suite.
