“Split Verdict: World Class Food, First Tier Service, Very Poor Room Layout”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 May 2012

There is a tremendous lot to like about this hotel. The location is just perfect for access to the Gaudi buildings, to the Rambla or to upscale shopping. It is not all that far from the charming pedestrian walkway town center. The food was utterly out of this world----not just the reknown Moo Restaurant, but also room service, particularly breakfast. While there was no separate concierge, that is because the front desk covers that role, and they cover it competently and quickly. In fact, service and staff interaction was superb throughout the hotel. The business center was fine. All of this was 5/6 star quality. On the other hand, the interior decorating and structure of the rooms was, in my view, horrible.

We had two rooms, one of which was a junior suite (according to the website, only 5 rooms in the whole hotel are larger). This junior suite had the following furniture: bed+2 night stands, desk/chair, couch/coffee table. That is it; no dresser and no chairs other than the desk chair. That is fine for a king bedroom, but ridiculous for a suite. While there was plenty of closet space, rather than using some of it for drawers or shelves with drawer spacing, the whole thing was either box space (as if they might decide to put 4 mini bars in there someday) or clothes hanging space. Finding enough room to stack one's non hanging clothes was not possible----in a suite.

The bathroom had many problems. The door was double weight and designed to close automatically, and it is more problematic than it might sound, particularly as the only trash can was in the bathroom. If you stepped into the bathroom for two seconds for a tissue or to throw away a piece of paper, it was 2 heavy door openings every time. This got to be a pain. There was a large window between the bed area and the bathroom, with two options: curtain up for visual review of the bathroom (which is okay as one option to be sure), or a sheer transparent curtain. Why on earth is the 2nd option visually equivalent to the first? There was only a small single Budget 6 sized bar of soap. Lots and lots of fancy conditioners, but essentially no soap for us plain folks. There were wash cloths, but only by the bidet on a knee level hanger, and I did get the message that these were not meant for my face or hands.

More: about a fifth of the total suite space was allocated to a totally unnecessary and useless hall. What poor design! The bed had this funny frame around it that extended aboiut a foot wider than the bed in all directions, which might be a good idea if one is spending weeks in bed, but was simply in the way for normal use.

Our daughter's king bedroom actually had almost the same amount of furniture without any of the weird features described above. She had a table and 2 chairs instead of the couch/coffee table. It was a much better home for the week than the suite.

A friend and I went to the Omm for a mini weekend (one night), and the hotel exceeded expectations in every way.

The location is great: virtually equidistant to many of the city's sights, i.e. Barri Gotic, Parc Guell, Sacrada Familia, and in the middle of a high end shopping area (with many lovely Gaudi buildings dotted around).

The reception desk service was professional and polite (though perhaps not warm). The decor is edgy and interesting (if black corridors with running lights to guide you are not to your taste, this might not be the place for you). Our room was on the third floor at the far end of the corridor. Despite opting for the smallest type of room, our room was beautiful, light and spacious with many pleasant features like a bay window seat with pillows, windows that open (a rarity in some hotels), a gorgeous shower, lovely lighting and a projector television. At night, we put the window shutters down, and it was like sleeping in a tomb. Waking in the morning, it was almost disorienting to have so little light or sound - we both slept incredibly well. The beds are amazingly comfortable.

We made extensive use of the small rooftop terrace/bar and pool. It is not a large space, but on two beautiful days, we had no problem getting two loungers, and enjoyed lovely meals and drinks.

We also ate at Moo, the Michelin starred restaurant in the hotel, which I can't recommend highly enough. The food was gorgeous, the staff was flawlessly professional and good humored (no stiffness, despite the extreme professionalism), and the sommelier was absolutely brilliant, explaining clearly and insightfully each wine matched to our tasting menus.

We ultimately paid a bit extra for a very late (6pm) checkout on Sunday, but it was worth to have a longer experience of the Omm. We will definitely return, and believe that it was excellent value for a fun, funky, professionally managed boutique hotel in Barcelona with many amenities. Highly recommended.

Omm is stylish and has a terrific lounge area and comfortable rooms in the center of Barcelona. Somewhat slow on service though. A good roof terrace and everything within walking distance. So I would say price/qaulity in order. Friends of ours brought small kids and they got a wonderful treatment.

You won't sleep unless you wear ear plugs (which are not provided). No concierge - front desk suggested going online for information. Skip Omm recommended!

I stayed in the Omm in April.

The hotel is located very centrally in Barcelona, with many of the shops and tourist attractions within easy walking distance.

The rooms are excellent, very clean, very modern, and very well proportioned.

I have two negatives from my stay. The first is the hotel gym. I wouldn’t call this a gym, in fact I've seen home gyms with more equipment. One treadmill, one bike and a few weights is pretty poor. The second is the hotel staff in the lobby bar/restaurant. Serving customers seemed to be the last thing they wanted to do. On both days I had breakfast in the hotel I had to practically force the waiter to give me my bill.

Overall a lovely hotel, but for both exercise and breakfast, I recommend you leave the hotel.
