The El Born neighbourhood is one of the very best neighbourhoods in Barcelona and is steeped in history.
Once the stomping ground of the aristocracy and central in the rich trading tradition of Barceloneta due to its close proximity to the sea,it's a wonderful area to stay or just to visit.
The architecture in this neighbourhood is outstanding, Medieval, Gothic and Roman, you'll find it all here, visit the wonderful Plaça De Sant Pere, marvel at the Sant Pere Romanesque Church and enjoy a cooling drink or head to the beautiful Palau De La Musica Catalana, a great piece of architecture, some of the best traditional bodegas are to be found here, walk in the footsteps of Picasso who arrived in El Born at the age of 15,if you enjoy your retail therapy there's an amazing amount of shopping outlets here,it's just one outstandingly beautiful area to visit.
Most definitely well worth checking out if your planning a holiday to this most vibrant of cities.

This is my favorite part of the city. There's so much amazing shopping and food. If you can only go to one part of Barcelona, this would be my pick.

literally across the street from the gothic quarter El Born was a great surprise. our air bnb was on a. vibrant street with small markets, fresh juice shops, cafes, tapas restaurants, walking distance to gothic quarter, we walked to the beach every day. I think the more low-key trendy spots are in El born because rent is less $$ vs Gothic Quarter. We even got caught up in a national holiday and a great parade ensued.

We normally avoid the super touristy sections of cities; we were pleasantly surprised by El Born's history and the great mix of stores and amenities it had. This is one touristy neighborhood that's worth visiting.
