We were a group of 6 females, we had booked 3 rooms with twin beds, and that is what we got, 2 of the rooms had the internal windows and one had a terrace, we had no problems with any of the rooms and they were spotless, the beds sooooo comfortable and air con that worked well. The road outside is busy but we didnt hear a thing and slept well every night. The hotel is situated in the theatre area of the city and within a 10 minute stroll of La Rambla and a 15 minute stroll down to the harbour. The rooftop terrace and pool was a lovely area to go and see the city, looking down at the traffic and enjoying the privacy up there. We had breakfast included and it was always well presented and the staff courteous.
The reception staff were extremely helpful and any staff we encountered were always very polite and friendly.
A metro station outside and a bus stop close by , couldnt ask for more.

Thank you for your comments!! We are happy to read that you enjoyed your stay in our hotel and you had a nice impression of our helpful and friendly front desk staff. Another comment that makes us happy is the one regarding the all our facilities and how clean our rooms are..

Stayed for two nights following a cruise - good location and rooftop pool area is fairly nice. The rooms were of an ok size for Europe. Desk service during check-in was a bit standoffish but perhaps they were at the end of their shift - the next shift the following night were very nice and helpful. Shortfalls of this hotel is lack of ice machines on floors - you have to either call room service or go down to the lobby and ask for a glass of ice - a bit time consuming; and they were always low on ice in the later part of the evening. Morning breakfast was nice selection of food but they could not manage peak periods - we happened to arrive around 9am, had to wait a bit for a table to be cleared and reset, then wait again for additional juices and food to be placed out - they had 3 people on the floor - one sitting people and clearing, one to recharge the buffet and a 3rd to clear and reset dishes - obviously not enough dishes for the number of people eating at peak period, and not enough people on duty - but food was good and plentiful. Despite the negative comments for improvement, I'd stay again.

Room Tip: We were on the 5th floor and had no issues - room was quiet and clean.

Thank you for your comments, we are happy to read you liked our location and our rooftop pool area. It is nice to know you would come back in the future if you ever visited again Barcelona. Thank you, it is very nice to read it. Regarding ice machines on floors I understand it is something common in USA but not at all in Europe. Also ice machines use to make noises and they cannot be placed in the corridors where the rooms are located.

We loved our stay at Hotel Universal Barcelona. The room and property we well kept and impeccably clean. The rooms were comfortable and well air conditioned. I appreciated the help the staff gave us in finding our way around, we well as their sense of privacy. We were never bothered by staff, always felt well cared for and had everything we needed. The location is close to the San Antoni Market and a nice walk through the old quarter to Las Ramblas. It was lovely.

I would stay there again. There was a little street noise we could hear but overall the rooms were very peaceful and quiet.

I would recommend this hotel as a great location before sailing out on a cruise ship since it is easily located to the cruise port. The hotel was clean and our spacious suite easily accomodated the 4 of us. The gym is ok for a one time use, but definitely don't stay there for the gym. It's tiny with 2 treadmills, 2 bikes, and a few free weights. The view from the rooftop is very pretty. The staff was kind but didn't go out of there way to accomodate us.
If you are staying several days in Barcelona and would like to enjoy the sights, shopping, food, and boutiques, I would not stay at this hotel. For these things, I would prefer to have stayed in the downtown area....Eixample area rahter than the La Rambla area. La Rambla was not my cup of tea. Eixample area is a beautiful part of the city. It is clean, classy, active and fun with lots of great food and sightseeing options.

Room Tip: Corner suite was spacious. Fits 4 people. Bathroom was a great size too.

Thank you for your comments, it is good to read you considered our hotel a clean one. Our fitness room is not the reason to choose our hotel, I agree with you, but you have to think that it is an extra complimentary service we offer. You have to think that most of the hotels charge a fee for using their gym and we offer it for free.
There's something I do not understand, you say that for staying several days in Barcelona you would prefer to stay in downtown area, like for example Eixample... Well, our hotel is located in downtown area, Eixample is not the center of the city. It is a nice area, but the center of the city is where we are located. I make this clear to avoid confusing other tripadvisor users because when reading your review they can think that Eixample is the center of the city and it is not true.
Thanks,
