My boyfriend and I recently stayed at the Renaissance Barcelona and loved our visit. The hotel just opened in April - and you can tell. The good part of this is that the rooms are in great shape. The bathrooms are the most beautiful bathrooms I have ever seen in a hotel (deep green marble)! The fitness room is also beautiful and clean. The downside of its newness is that there are still some sharp edges that need to be rounded out. For example, the room service is VERY disorganized. We ordered breakfast in our room two mornings - each morning were missing items or items that were on the menu but unavailable. Other real pluses of this hotel are the staff (VERY friendly) and the location (close the everything but not in the middle of the tourist masses). I'd definitely stay here again!

Location is perfect...rooms and public spaces brand new. Good Health Club. Staff is friendly and helpful. Only problems we had were we could not get our room clean before 3pm each day and morning coffee was difficult. No public set up in lobby and room service screwed up the order 3 out of 4 mornings. I think with some training and management tweaks the situation will improve.

Room Tip: request a higher floor to avoid street noise and ask to be on the opposite side of the construction.

I had a one night stay whilst in transit from ship to airport.
There was restoration in progress - a lot of was however completed (May 2012).
The check in was fast and efficient, also very friendly. The 'Navigator' concierge system is very good and helpful.
Centrally located, with no problem to walk any where. Gaudi's new cathedral is 15mins slow walk down the road.
Hotel restaurant was closed during my stay - being renovated.
The bar served room service menu and a selection of tapas style dishes - all a little on the expensive side.
Breakfast (24 euros for the full buffet) was a standard buffet - with a good selection of local produce.
All in all a nice hotel. One night stay was 224 euros - cheaper rates can be obtained.

Room Tip: Try for asn 8th floor room, close to the lovely outside terrace bar and great views over the house tops

Stayed here on recent trip to Barcelona and booked simply as opening offer was too good to miss & probably could not afford it next time. Hotel was very easy to find from aerobus stop at Plaza Cataluyna via Pau Claris street. There is a big R - Renaissance visible from afar .Checkin was very quick and allocated room on high floor as requested, room 1009 on 10th & top floor !!!!

Lovely new room, good sized and great bed, all clean & new & crisp fresh linens. Nice "Gaudi" effect mosaic wallpaper on walls & plenty of storage space. 2 free mineral waters in fridge was a nice touch. Excellent flatscreen tv with BBC1 & 2, ITV London , what a treat instead of the usual BBCWorld news station. Bathroom was sparkling new with loads of soaps, salts & mouthwash etc. but compact.

The hotel is in a great location near Girona metro stop & Passeig de Gracia ( lots of work at station entrance) Breakfast was not included in the rate so ate at the cafe directly opposite the hotel plus there are plenty of places to eat nearby too. Breakfast was an extra 25 euro and probably was not going to be worth it so avoided the extra cost. The outside terrace on the 8th floor was nice & under used , it was quite on both occasions I went to look out over the city, great views. 2 free to use Apple computers in the plush lobby was good to have.

However building work still seems to be going on as at both sides of the building there are chutes & skips with trash. There was also a lot of airline crew (Air Transat & Lufthansa) staying so there must be plenty of room hence the opening offers. Hopefully once the hotel is open properly and up & running & all the staff fully trained it should be a super hotel.

We (two couples) stayed a week in May 2012 in two double rooms on the top floor. The lobby & rooms are newly renovated and have an excellent modern vibe. The location was unbeatable; a block off Pg Gracia where we enjoyed daily walks "home" past the gorgeously stunning Casa Batllo. Convenient for walking to La Ramblas, Gothic District, and Pg Gracia. Would definitely stay here again and fully recommend. Try the mojitos and room service! My only wish would be free wifi in the rooms, but there were 2 Mac computers available for public use with unlimited printing provided.
