“Really good hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 May 2012

Rooms are nicely decorated and well laid out, but a little small. The bathroom was clean and up to date. Hotel was having multiple problems with the elevators while we were there which wasn't very comforting.
Location is really good. Walking distance to most areas and near lots of restaurants.
Hotel bar was excellent. Made a great Cosmo and Manhattan if you are looking for a cocktail while in Barcelona!

Loved my stay at the Renaissance Barcelona Hotel. great location. oh, and RLife was a great experience. (Me encantó mi estancia en el Hotel Renaissance Barcelona. excelente ubicación. ah, y RLife fue una gran experiencia.)

The hotel is located in a a nice area and a few minutes from Passeig de Gracia, which is a must visit strip of shops and Barcelona landmarks including the acclaimed Casa Batllo Gaudi. The hotel was also walking distance to the train station and metro rail. FYI, if you traveling within the city purchase a 10-trip metro card you will get more bang for your buck.

This hotel is a hidden gem. On a quiet street, but still close to most major attractions it offers clean, modern looking rooms and friendly service. The rooms are small, but this is Europe and to be expected. They look recently renovated, with new LG flat sceen TVs. WiFi is expensive, but there are two computers in the lobby that you can use to check email or whatever (not that we sometimes had to wait until one was free).

While you can walk to most sights, there is also a Metro stop a block away which makes it easy to get around Barcelona. Ask the lobby staff for help getting around this city - they're more than happy to help. Check out Tapas24 for a great restaurant that is close by.

Although I made a reservation one week in advance, I was given a room for disabled guests because the hotel was fully booked and no other rooms were available. I thought that a room for disabled guests should always be kept by the hotel, being fully booked or not. My room (401) had a table only with one plug, so to use my computer I had to switch off the table light or work until my computer battery went off. As for the bathroom, the tap was so close to the sink that I could hardly wash my hands. The bar at lobby level is slow and inneficient. The gym has good facilities but it is small, so before you go down with your work-out gear, specially early morning, you should check whether it is full or not. Fortunately the hotel has a good down town location with numerous quality and inexpensive restaurants nearby, because their room service serves mostly junk or tasteless food. Lately I was not happy with the Renaissance by the airport and decided to try this one in town, but for me it was quite a disappointment.

Room Tip: Avoid room 401

We stayed at this hotel beginning of may 2012, as soon as we arrived at the hotel we felt very welcomed by the staff and they were very helpful. The bar staff were lovely and made delicious cocktails. Our room was lovely quiet small but very clean and had lots of toiletries which was great. The location was great too, about a 10 minute walk to La Ramblas which was a nice walk. We stayed on a bed and breakfast basis, we found the breakfast pretty poor we only stayed 2 nights if we had stayed any longer we would of had to eaten out on the third day.
Our overall experience with the hotel was fantastic and we would definitely stay there again if ever went back to Barcelona.
