Owner description: The Museu Picasso in Barcelona is a key reference for understanding the formative years of Pablo Picasso. The genius of the young artist is revealed through the 4,251 works that make up the permanent collection. Furthermore, the Museu Picasso, opened in 1963, also reveals his deep relationship with Barcelona: an intimate, solid relationship that was shaped in his adolescence and youth, and continued until his death. The Museum is very rich in regard to work from the formative years in the life of the artist; it is practically exhaustive up to the Blue Period. The Museum also houses an important representation of works from 1917, and the series Las Meninas (1957) as well as a comprehensive print collection.

We went on the Saturday and it was sold out most of the day. We checked online to book a convenient time on the Sunday and found the first Sunday of the month the museum was free all day and every Sunday it free after 3pm. We booked a slot. It was fantastic and a lot quieter than it was on the Saturday.

There was a large amount of Picasso’s work which was great.

Some of the staff were rather rude. We couldn’t find the entry to the actual exhibition so we were wandering around the building and most the staff told us they did not speak English and walked away rather rudely. Would have been better if they said sorry I don’t speak English and then looked for someone who worked there who could speak English. We eventually found someone who spoke fluent English who was so helpful and lovely.

I’d recommend if you visit to go on a Sunday. I believe there is 12 attractions in Barcelona that have this free entry deal.

A brilliant exhibition, mainly of his early works. His paintings as a 14 year old student show his talent even at that age. The museum is really well arranged with his works displayed in room by his age. So you start at 14 and work on as he aged. Superb to see how his styles changed. You do have to work through a few rooms of drawings which are interesting rather than spectacular. The star of the show comes at the end with the Velasquez work and other masterpieces on show in the Meninas rooms. Not quite as good as the Museum in Malaga, but still a must see museum

Shows Picasso's works since the very beginning until late in career. Explains influences, phases, companions, cities lived and so on. Very interesting for arts fans.

Even though I don't have a deep interest in this particular artist, the museum was fine. My biggest complaint is that the culmination of the exhibit seemed to be the Las Meninas room, an extensive study he did of a masterwork by Velazquez WHICH WAS NEVER SHOWN! Why should I need to google it on my phone to see the painting he was referring to??
