“Exceptional and such good value”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 September 2012

Recommended by a friend, we didnt know what to expect as revious experiences of spanish cuisine was 'mixed' at best. what we hadn't realised is that this is proudly Basque and the flavours and execution of the dishes was exceptional.
We took the taster menu and also the wine taster option which was not only excellent value but a great way to try several wines matched to each course chosen by experts.
There several 'adventurous' dishes in the fixed menu but everything was beautifully balanced.

Possibly one of the best dining experiences - challenging far more expensive michelin starred establishments that we have eaten at.

We will return to San Sebastian as it is a beautiful city but more importantly to visit this restaurant!

Treat yourself and have the full tasting experience ..amazing value even it looks more expensive than the myriad of cheaper tapas establishments elsewhere.

“Amazing food - a MUST!”

The food was superb. Everything tasted fresh - try the roasted lamb. It literally melted in my mouth. My husband loved the squid as well. We will definitely go back on our next visit to San Sebastian.

“Outstanding Basque cuisine expetience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 September 2012

This restaurant was the highlight of a weekend spent in San Sebastian, in fact the highlight of 18 months living in Spain. Recommended by a friend born in San Sebastian who attended with us, our party of eight had the tasting menu and it was a delight.

“Absolutely Devine Basque Restaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 August 2012

A friend and I had the opportunity to dine at Bodegon Alejandro in San Sebastian a couple of nights ago and we are still talking about what an absolutely excellent experience we had there. The restaurant is downstairs below street level but does not feel cave like, in fact it is cozy and charming.

The food far exceed our expectation and our expecatation were high to start with. To start with the restaurant includes a number of special touches free of charge. They started us with a small delicious gazpacho soup and finish our meal with a luscious creamy after dinner drink and cookie. My friend had the veal and I had the melt in your mouth lamb shoulder. We both thought our dishes exceptional. For dessert we shared a very unique peach gnochi with coconut ice cream bathed in citrus juice. This may sound different and it was. It was different and a must have for anyone who dines at Bodegon Alejandro's. I guarantee you will remember this dessert for a long time after you have finished your meal.

Our service was spot on. The hostess and waitress both spoke clear and easy to understand English. We were immediately provided with an English menu and promised any questions we had would be answered. Thoughout the meal the service continued to be attentive. The restaurant was almost empty by the time we were ready for the check and our waitress was not readily available but as is the custom in Spain we simply walked our check and payment to the hostess when we were ready.

Standing at the we found the chef so we had the opportunity to thank him personally for the excellent meal. He beamed and we were pleased to have been able to let him know just how much we appreciated his fine work!

“Real food with a twist, and at a fair price - great night!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 August 2012

We discovered Bodegon Alejandro in our travel guide whilst looking for options other than Pintxos from which we needed a break. We were very happyreading the menu, as the dishes were real good stuff, no chi-chi. Stuff like slow cooked veal cheeks or lamb shoulders! Then when the dish arrived it really beaty our expectations with a twist (flavours, spices or presentation) that we didn't expect. Serivce was inconsistent, with 1-2 waitresses super friendly and knowledgeable, and other the complete opposite, but it might just have been the language barrier. Good wines (and good advice) to top it, I would go back anytime and recommend it heartly.
