“Good location, good quality”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 April 2012

I stayed in this hotel for four nights in Easter 2012. The hotel facilities looked a bit old, but newly refurbished with a modern touch. The room was a spacious and comfortable. Practically it had everything to feel cosy in it with a spacious bathroom as well. As a downside, I would point out that, though I ordered a double bed, I was offered a queen size bed instead of a king size one, which is not so comfortable as expected. Anyway the mattress was fine. Soundproof room made that I had a good sleep. There is no free wi-fi in room, only in the lobby. Just ask at the reception desk for your 15-minute free voucher.

The buffet breakfast was varied, including freshly squeezed fruit juices and dairy products. I also enjoyed that there was a wide selection of teas.

The hotel is well situated, within walking distance to all the main attractions. The coach station is very close (10-minute walk), allowing you to visit the surrounding cities. Not to be missed a visit to Donostia/San Sebastian. Another nice trip is a visit to the Rioja winery in Haro.

In the neighbourhood of the hotel there is a Corte Ingles department store. There are also bars and restaurants (where you can try tasty “pintxos”), so you can always make your shopping or have a bite until late hours. From the hotel either you can walk to the old town (a pleasant 20-minute walk) or you take a tramway/metro. There is a nice park next to the hotel from where you can reach several attractions like for example the Guggenheim museum, the Fine Arts museum or Palacio Eskalduna (just a few meters across the road).

The hotel staff is very friendly and helpful, both at the reception and breakfast restaurant, which definitely made a very pleasant holiday.

I believe the last few reviews cover the hotel quite well, good location for airport bus, museums, restaurants, etc; a bit of walk or transit to the old town. Hotel is business style so no charm but no surprises either. Large rooms but showing a little wear and tear.
Someone commented on soft beds. I didn't find that (in fact every bed in Spain we had was like sleeping on the floor). Didn't have the pricey breakfast - lots of coffee shops/bars in the area.

This is a typical 4* hotel. Spacious rooms (standard double room) but a bit dark. Big bathroom. The best of all was the breakfast! Almost everything you want. Unfortunately no free wi-fi in room. You should ask at the reception for the password and then you can use free internet in the lobby.

We stayed in the hotel for the week and overall enjoyed our stay. The reception staff was not overly friendly but professional and helpful.

On the upside, the hotel has a great location. Being situated at the end of Gran Via, the main shopping street spanning most of the city centre of new Bilbao (and ending at the beginning of the old town), makes it both close to virtually all sights and the bus terminal, which is a good base for day trips.

The walking distance to the Guggenheim is about 15 minutes, 10 minutes to the Museo de Bellas Artes, 10 minutes to the bus terminal and 30 minutes to Casco Viejo (the old town). There is also a metro stop nearby (San Mamès), which allows for a much faster and inexpensive trip to Casco Viejo.

Another big advantage of the hotel is its breakfast buffet, which is rich, tasty and virtually doesn't leave any wishes open. Especially the Spanish ham, the delicious fresh bread and the freshly pressed orange juice turn having breakfast into a delight.

However, there are also two major downsides. One is the fact that you have to pay disproportionate fees for WiFi in the rooms. The hotel claims to have free WiFi in the reception area, but you have to ask for a voucher at the reception. With the voucher, usage time is limited to 30 minutes. The complicated procedure could be on purpose to coerce guests into using the hotel's paid WiFi.

The other disadvantage is the sleeping quality in the hotel beds.
We stayed in a room with a queen-sized bed, which unfortunately we found to be rather narrow and much too soft. The softness was of the type that causes a feeling of "hanging" in the bed and caused pain in the back. Additionally, the bed was equipped with one long pillow shared by the two of us, which we found unusual and also rather uncomfortable.

If it wasn't for the bed, we'd immediately stay in the hotel again. As sleep quality is an important factor of enjoying a vacation, we are unfortunately not so sure about it, due to the bed. Maybe opting for a twin bed would have provided for better comfort.
