“Hidden and different but Clean and nice Breakfast”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 April 2012

This lovely little hotel is hidden in the hills of this ancient mountain village. Our room was off of a little interior lobby/atrium (emphasis on little) with no windows so our only natural light required a compromise of privacy. The room was comfortable in size with a large bathroom and good shower. Bedding was of a good quality but the mattress could use replacing. Breakfast was particularly nice (and included in our room rate) with an excellent selection of fruits, yogurt, cereals, boiled eggs, breads and sweets as well as jiuces and coffee. Staff was most helpful and the parking is in a garage directly next door.

There is nothing particularly special about this hotel but the location is actually excellent and despite some tour-book warnings about the neighborhood we felt totally safe. If you have Claustrophobia this is certainly not the hotel for you but otherwise, why not. If you go, be aware that you can easily miss the entrance which is on the right side of a small street. If we were to return to Granada, we might well stay here again.

We did a drive of Andalucia. Granada was the highlight and the hotel was the best hotel value of the trip. The room was beautiful and comfortable. Breakfast was included and was very good as well. Just walk around the city and enjoy. Its like going back in time with the small charming streets, but has a youthful relaxed vibe and friendly people. Alhambra and the streets of Grenada are something to see! Driving can be a bit of a challenge so rent a small car if you go that route (we did not have GPS) and follow the bus as it passes the hotel. Parking for the hotel is close by.

We spent two weeks in Southern Spain this winter and of course, Granada was to be the important destination: I'd never visited the Alhambra. I'd read so much about it and needless to say, I was thrilled to finally be here.

Everyone said that Granada was expensive. True, of all the towns we stayed in during this trip -- it had the highest prices. But it's all relative! Compared to other European destinations, it was such a bargain!

But let me finally say a few words about the hotel -- this was one beautiful place! The family that owns and runs it is dedicated to the project of creating the most comfortable, gracious place for you to enjoy. Every curtain, every piece of art is exactly right. It is furnished with exquisite taste and attention to detail.

I spent every early evening in the "living room," with my laptop and a glass of the most delicious home made liquor. (It's their treat -- a homemade concoction that is sublime... I am so sorry it cannot be replicated back home in the States!) Sitting in the comfortable couches, I would reflect on the visit to the Alhambra, the lunches at the outdoor eateries around the corner and I thought then -- every expectation about the town, the hotel, the sights, was more than fulfilled.

A magnificent hotel! I should mention that the location, too, is perfect: up the hill in the old Arab quarter, yet within walking distance of the Alhambra. I have nothing but praise for the family that works so hard to make this hotel the treasure that it is.

We stayed here for one night at the end of January 2012. We stayed in the Tower room on the top floor. We felt like we were almost staying in a Swiss Chalet with the exposed beams, and the cute bathroom tucked away.

We had fantastic views of The Alhambra, this room is probably the best in the hotel for the views alone.

The wi-fi doesn't quite reach up that high, but we just took our laptop down to the sitting room on the ground floor and used it down there which was fine.

The staff were very helpful, though recommended several restaurants for dinner that were actually closed when we went due to it being off season, so that was a bit disappointing. Overall though they were extremely helpful, circling the must see attractions on a map so we easily find our way around.

The only real negative I have is that there were no curtains in our room apart from netting. So we didn't get a great nights sleep as it was too bright from the street-light across the road. We did however get good views of The Alhambra lit up, but I suggest you bring an eye mask if you stay in this room.

Room Tip: The tower room has fantastic Alhambra views but bring an eye mask!

The hotel is in the Albayzin district of Granada, looking across to the Alhambra.
Albayzin is very picturesque and so rather touristy, and while it is close to the Alhambra as the crow flies, there is the little matter of a 100m (300 feet) deep gorge between the two! However, there is a regular minibus service into the city centre (#31 - every 10 minutes, stops very close to hotel), then change at Cathedral to another (#30) up to Alhambra. Standard fare is 1.20 euros on all city buses.
Whilst the hotel website says that it has views of the Alhambra, it appears that the building opposite has been extended so these views are limited. You need to book a top floor room with external window to get any view.
There is a little traffic noise from cars & minibuses passing in the very narrow street outside, but quiet at night. Within the hotel, all was quiet when we were there.
There is an attractive courtyard into which some rooms look; it is open to the sky, but a cover is pulled across at night in winter to keep it warm. It is probably drawn during the day in summer to keep heat out.
There is a cosy sitting room with antique furnishings, with log fire in winter evenings.
It is all very clean, with a friendly welcome & helpful service.
Buffet breakfast is passable - could do better.
Free Wi-Fi doesn’t actually work in all rooms so need to use it in the sitting room.

Room Tip: Only the rooms on the top floor have views of Alhambra. Some rooms only have windows into the court...
