“Excellent hotel and location”
Reviewed 9 September 2012

We returned to this hotel after a 15 year break and were not disappointed. We had requested a particular room location and whilst our room was not available on arrival we were invited to have a complimentary drink on the terrace whilst the room was made ready. Throughout our stay we were very well looked after by all of the staff from reception to departure. The breakfasts and buffet dinners were most enjoyable. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the relaxed atmosphere and will hopefully be returning next year. We did not use the spa so no rating submitted.

Third vacation to Spain, first stay in Marbella, stayed 3 weeks August 2012. We were a little nervous about room size after reading some reviews, however we had a side sea view room (2 chairs/table on balcony), 5th floor which was a good size, with 5 piece bath. The staff were polished, polite, friendly and interested in making our stay at the hotel a pleasant one. Management, front desk, kitchen staff, housekeeping, bar, pool staff...ALL EXCELLENT. We had the breakfast buffet, Cristobol in the Restaurante went above and beyond to take care of any needs we had. Management asked if we enjoyed our stay, we took a few day trips (offered through the Hotel) front desk staff asked if we had fun, even made us a lunch to take with us.
Hotel was clean in all areas. Entertainment 6 nights of the week, different each night. There are 2 pools, both with lounges, also beachfront with separate direct access to the beach. Location could not be better, rear is on the beachfront promenade (we walked to Puerto Banus and back one day, on promenade entire way), lots of shops, restaurants, bars, entertainment in this area. The front of the hotel is just a few blocks away from the Old City, famous Orange Square with more shopping and restaurants. Large mall, short taxi ride away. We went past many hotels, both in front and along the beach side, and it appears Fuerte is one of the best in all aspects. The food is superb, lots of variety, good value. Marbella is a great city, close to Malaga (taxi 85 euros), Ronda, Seville, Cordoba and Granada. So much to see in all of these locations. I am sure we will be back to Spain and we would not hesitate to recommend Fuerte Marbella as the perfect place to stay in Marbella.
We have stayed in 5 star hotels, this 4 star surpassed service levels in our opinion. We did not rent a car, walked most places and only needed taxi a few times. Recommend day trips, good value, tour guides.

Had a really great stay at the Hotel Fuerte Marbella in August while travelling with friends. It is a traditional hotel which is kept very clean and hotel employees were attentive and very friendly. Breakfast is excellent with a lot of choice and the cava is a nice touch! The service in the beach restaurant was not as good as the bar where the waiters were always happy to assist in brining drinks to the pool and were always very welcoming when we returned to the hotel for a drink after being out at night. The pool area is lovely and the beach is just across the walkway behind the hotel. The location could not have been better as there is easy access to shops, amazing restaurants and old town Marbella. We enjoyed the entire trip and would highly recommend Marbella and this hotel – wish we were there now!

Didn't stay at the Hotel Fuerte but have no plans to do so , based on the impression I got whilst spending time there on a working trip . The hotel is soul-less , somewhat dated looking and there are not nearly enough staff - not even for those people waiting to check in or out at the reception area. .
There seemed to be no-one around to serve coffee or breakfast and lunch , although good, was very over-priced . I asked to use the lounging area and expected to pay but I was told that I could only use the pool which would cost 20 euros ( not including a towel which cost extra !) and could not use a sunbed . The poolside cafe was closed and there was no one to serve any kind of refreshments at the outside area . The hotel is in a great location but needs a lot of work !!

This is a chain hotel without any character - but given that it has direct access to a sandy beach, plenty of rooms with sea views, and easy access to the old heart of Marbella, perhaps it doesn't need any. It's clean and comfortable and the staff are friendly and polite, even amid the hurly burly of the breakfast buffet. Just one complaint: reception is undermanned, so don't leave checking out until the last moment
